Army officers’ houses burgled in cantonment
Jalandhar, November 28 This is evident from the fact that at least the houses of three Army officers have been targeted by the thieves. The police has failed to make any headway in any of the theft cases occurred at various locations in the Army area. Two young Captains, whose houses are located on Fauji Road, considered as one of the safest area, have been the latest victims of the thieves. The thieves struck at their houses on the same night a few days back and decamped with electronic goods and gold jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh. Earlier, electronic goods and gold worth Rs 3 lakh were stolen from the house of a Colonel putting up at Ranjit Road. Similar theft cases of goods, gold jewellery and vehicles have taken place on the Bhagat Road, Haqiqat Road and Mall Road locations of Jalandhar Cantonment in the recent past. It has also been observed that thieves have been keeping a close eye on the houses of the victims as they struck at the places of Army officers during those days when they were out of station. However, surprisingly the police neither rounded up anybody in these cases, nor enhanced security measures in the cantonment. The police has reportedly not even put up nakas at these areas, which has further increased fear of thefts among the officers and jawans. When contacted in this regard, Inspector Rashpal Singh said adequate measures were being taken to curb the thefts in the cantonment. “Investigations are on to round up some suspects involved in the thefts. We also took the fingerprints of the local maids and other suspects to solve the cases. We have already deployed Additional SHO Sub-Inspector Mohan Singh to probe the theft cases,” he added. Inspector Rashpal said they were putting up three nakas daily at Thimmaiya Park, Phagwara Road and Chattri Chowk in cantonment. “We keep on putting up nakas everywhere along with the Military Police in the cantonment as and when the requirement occurs,” he said assuring that the theft cases would be solved at the earliest. |
