Conference on technology
: About 200 delegates from India and foreign countries, including the UK, Malaysia and Nepal, are participating in a two-day UGC-sponsored international conference on ‘Technology and Information System’, which began at DAV college, yesterday. On the first day, more than 40 research papers were presented. In the inaugural session, Dr. S.K Sama, Vice-President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, said technical education was the backbone of the new education system. Dr G.D Sharma, former Secretary UGC and President Society of Educational and Economic Development, spoke on “Cloud Computing”, a new technology to help in fulfilling all the daily needs and facilities. 

Ferozepur
Fake currency seized
: The district police of Ferozepur has seized fake currency of Rs 1.5 lakh on Sunday. However, no case has been registered in this connection so far. SSP Ferozepur Kustab Sharma, when contacted, said the police was investigating the matter. He added that he would be able to comment after he receives the report, which is expected on Monday.

Office-bearers of Gymkhana Club
: The following have been elected as the office bearers of Jullundur Gymkhana Club during elections held on Saturday: Honorary secretary: Satish Thakur Gora; junior vice president: Dr Pawan Gupta; joint secretary: Gulshan Sharma; and treasurer: Narinder Singh Shergill. The 10 executives who have been elected include Madhuri Anu Matta, Dheeraj Seth, Daljit Singh Chhabra, Gurpreet Singh Kochhar, Tarun SIkka, Inderpal Singh, SPS Virk, Vipan Jhanji, Atul Talwar and Pankaj Sharma.

Docs’ meet
: Dr Aman Dua, a local surgeon, attended the 18th annual scientific meeting of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery at Boston in Massachusetts, US, recently. The meet discussed the latest and best techniques of hair transplant and dwelt upon advancements and experiences. Dr Dua also participated in a hands-on workshop on hairline design, complications and FUE hair transplant.

Birth anniversary: Congress workers distributed fruits, sweets and notebooks among students of Government Primary School at the Suraj Nagar locality here on Friday to mark the 93rd birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi. Former district Congress committee president Krishan Kumar Bawa said she had taken steps like nationalisation of banks and abolition of privy purses of erstwhile princes, which had a significant bearing on the nation’s economy.Functionaries of Bharatiya Valmiki Mahapanchayat paid tributes to her at a function organised at the Valmiki Dharamshala here.

Suicide
: Three deaths were reported while one person sustained serious injuries around Phillaur during the past 24 hours. Gurmit Ram (55) and his wife Saroj Devi (52) of Dhaleta village, near here, reportedly committed suicide by jumping before the Jammu-bound Malwa Express near Dosanjh Khurad level crossing. Stress was quoted as the reason, the railway police said. Their bodies were sent to the Phillaur Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Killed: A young motorcyclist sustained serious injuries while the woman riding pillion was killed when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck near Apra village in the subdivision.

Samrala
NHAI team
: A three-member team of the National Highway Authority of India visited Samrala and Khamano to assess the ongoing work on the proposed six laning of the road.They also talked to a few persons and the nagar panchayat president and sought their views about the proposed construction of the bypass. They told people that the length of the proposed six lane would be about six km from Bondli to Chahlan villages and about five km in Khamano. The entire stretch of the road would be fenced. 

Gurpurb celebrated@@Jalandhar, November 21@@The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated in all gurdwaras across the city today. Shabad kirtan, katha and kavishri programmes were held throughout the day, followed by ardas and guru ka langar. In the evening, the gurdwaras, markets and shops remained illuminated. There were samagams even in the evenings, again concluding with langar.

: The police yesterday arrested Uttam Chand, a resident of Chelach in Karsog, under the NDPS Act after recovering 5 kg of charas from his possession.According to the police, they had laid a naka and searched Uttam Chand on suspicion and recovered the charas from him.

:A 10-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speeding Bolero at Basain Morh in Kathua district today, the police said.It added the deceased identified as Arun Kumar of Chak Ram Chand village was crossing the road at Basain Morh when the rashly driven vehicle hit him, killing him on the
