Scribe commits suicide
Kharar, November 20 Sachdeva jumped into a canal near Kajauli water works this morning at 10 am. Before taking such an extreme step, he called up his friend in Kharar. The police said Sachdeva told his friend that he was committing suicide as he was not able to repay the loan amount. Sachdeva had taken loans from various quarters and also ran a clothes shop in Kharar. The police recovered Sachdeva’s Honda Activa scooter, clothes, shoes and mobiles from near the spot where he jumped into the canal. Till the filing of this report, Sachdeva’s body was not found. The police is investigating the matter. |

Technoquest
Patiala, November 20 College principal Dr SK Bhardwaj said Technoquest was a state-level festival of technical education and Information Technology. He further said 578 students from 17 technical educational institutions, including Punjabi University and Thapar University,
Patiala, participated. Event director Dr Gurpreet Singh Lehal said events like Technoquest presented a combination of fun and learning, while giving the students an opportunity to showcase their talent and skills beyond a classroom. Prof Harmohan Sharma said 578 students took part in test your skills in “C”, 18 students made paper presentations, seven teams appeared in the IT Quiz, nine teams took part in web designing and 16 students participated in on-the-spot poster-making contest.

Cop in trouble on Fiza’s complaint
Mohali, November 20 While issuing bai able warrants against the ASI, the court directed the Station House Officer (SHO) Phase 11 to present himself before the court along the action taken report. Fiza had lamented that instead of taking action on her complaint, the police had implicated her in two different cases. After being booked in a trespass case, Fiza has filed a criminal complaint under Section 156 (3) of the CrPC seeking investigations into her complaint of the police not acting against her neighbours Ram Krishan. She alleged that despite her relative being assaulted, the police did not register any case. On the other hand, her neighbour has been alleging that Fiza threw eggs at his house. On the basis of his complaint, the police had arrested Fiza for allegedly disturbing peace in her locality in Sector 48 C where she lives. |

Policemen acquitted of graft
Chandigarh, November 20 The CBI had booked SI Dewan Chand and constable Jasbir Singh in April 2008 for allegedly demanding bribe from a Khajeri resident Prem Singh. In his complaint, Prem Singh had alleged that the duo had demanded Rs 20,000 from him for not arresting him in an electricity theft case. The CBI had laid a trap and caught the duo red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe. Prem Singh had died even before trial began.

Man stabbed in brawl
Chandigarh, November 20 SHO of the Sector 31 police station inspector Bakshish Singh said Shibu stabbed 26-year-old Kuldeep Singh in his belly and hit his mother on her head. Both were rushed to the Sector 32 Government Medical College and Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable. A case of attempt to murder has been registered. The SHO said the incident occurred at around 10 pm when Kuldeep’s wife went to fetch water from a common tap in their locality. Shibu made indecent remarks on Kuldeep’s wife. Fed up with his attitude, she informed her mother-in-law, Palo, about his behaviour. Palo, who is complainant in the case, reportedly went to Shibu to warn him. An altercation ensued and Shibu pushed Palo, resulting in a head injury. Hearing about the incident, Kuldeep went to the spot where Shibu stabbed him and fled. The SHO said the accused was arrested from the locality late in the night. He was produced before a local court today which remanded him to police custody. |

45-year-old attacked, robbed of Rs 10,000
Chandigarh, November 20 The police said the 45-year-old victim, Ishwar Singh Punia, was waiting to board a bus for Delhi when he was attacked. The incident occurred less than 12 hours after a bank manager was robbed of his Maruti Swift Dezire car at gunpoint in Sector 8 on Friday evening. Punia, who runs a primary school in Panchkula, told the police that the three motorcycle-borne youths came to him. Before he could judge their intentions, one of the youths pushed him and pulled out a packet of chilly powder from his pocket and threw it into his eyes. The other youth snatched his wristwatch and his wallet that contained ` 10,000 before hitting him with a blunt weapon. The police took him to the GMCH for medical examination and he was discharged after first-aid. Additional SHO of the Industrial Area police station sub-inspector Dharamvir Singh said a case under Section 382 had been registered in this connection. |

Scooterist killed in mishap
Chandigarh, November 20 The victim has been identified as Sohan Lal, a resident of Kansal. He was hit by a Honda City Car (CH-03-W-3490) in Sector 26 on Thursday. He was rushed to the Sector 32 Government Medical College and Hospital where he died next day. The police has arrested the car driver, Mahadev, a resident of Bihar, on charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving. In another incident, Rahul, a resident of Sector 23, lodged a complaint alleging that a CTU bus (CH-01-G1-5221) hit his scooter near the Kalagram traffic lights point today. He was seriously injured in the mishap and was rushed to the PGI. The police has registered a case of causing injuries due to rash and negligent driving in this connection. |

Mohali, November 20 He said neither the accused sent him abroad nor returned his money. A case under Sections 420,467, 468,471,120B of the IPC has been registered at the Phase I police station.
