BJP Yuva Morcha chief elected:
Ankur Garg has been nominated as president of the BJP Yuva Morcha here by the district president Manish Chhabra. District BJP president Arun Narang was joined by the vice-president Pramil Kalani, general secretary Ravi Setia, city BJP presidents Manu Jaiswal, Shankar Swami in felicitating Ankur during a meeting here. 

Suspended staff reinstated: Powercom executive engineer (XEN) and two sub-divisional engineers (SDEs), who were suspended recently, have been reinstated by chairman KD Chaudhary. However, XEN Gurbux Singh has been shifted to Mandi Gobingarh, sources said. SDEs They took over the charge immediately after receiving the orders. Powercom had issued a circular defining new rules and regulations for issuing power connections to the farmers, who own land up to five acres. The officials explained that they could not understand the true spirit of the circular since it had been issued only in English. 

Archery championship: Praveena, a student of BA II, in Gopi Chand Arya Mahila College, has been selected for participation in the National Senior Archery Championship, principal Dr Neelam Arun Mittu informed.While felicitating the brilliant sports girls during a function recently, the principal said Geeta, Kavita and Nirmala have won gold and bronze medals respectively during the junior open state judo championship held at Tarn Taran recently. Geeta would represent the state during the national championship to be held at Bangalore. She was adjudged as the best judo player of Punjab last year. The principal was joined by sports wing in-charge, Anita Singh, Amandeep and coach Ruchi in felicitating the students.

Students honoured:
The local unit of the Aggarwal Sabha honoured brilliant students on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Agarsain at Community Hall here today. Surinder Gupta, all-India president of the sabha, presided over the function. The function started with the lighting of lamps before the portrait of Maharaja Agarsain and singing of “Vande Matram”. Students presented a cultural programme. After this, dignitaries were welcomed by giving them bouquets. The function concluded with the honouring of meritorious students of different schools and presenting of mementos to the distinguished guests.

Zonal youth fest at engg college
: Zonal youth festival of the Zone-IV of Punjab Technical University began on Friday at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College. College principal MS Grewal inaugurated the festival. About 80 colleges of PTU are participating.

Check-up camp
: A free medical check-up camp was organised at Tiber village in the district. The camp was organised by Sanjeev Malhan, Vice-Chairman of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA). As many as 500 patients were examined by ophthalmologist Dr K.D Singh and his team of doctors. Patients were given free medicines. 

Rice millers welcome VAT waiver: A meeting of the Rice Millers Association, Fatehgarh Sahib, was held at Sirhind on Sunday. The millers reportedly welcomed the government decision of waiving VAT on rice bran. They said the decision would help millers of Punjab to get some respite from financial problems. A large number of office-bearers of the Punjab Rice Millers Association attended the meeting. — TNS

Man murders wife
: A man murdered his wife at Ragwal village in Dasuya last evening. According to investigating officer of the case Balbir Singh, Satnam Singh of Aadochang stated that his daughter Manjit Kaur (32) was married to Mohan Lal of Ragwal about 10 years ago. He alleged that Mohan Lal murdered his wife with sharp-edged weapons. Balbir Singh said cause of murder was yet to be known. Mohan Lal was at large after murdering his wife. The Dasuya police has registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against Mohan Lal.

Peace congregation:
Various leaders from different political parties, including ruling SAD and BJP and opposition Congress, participated in the Vishva Shanti Mahotsava (peace congregation), organised by the Nurmahal-based Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthaan (DJJS) on Sunday. Punjab Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda, ex-ministers Chaudhary Jagjit Singh and Chaudhary Santokh Singh were present in the congregation. On Saturday, Congress spokesperson and Ludhiana MP Manish Tiwari visited 
the dera.

DSPs transferred:
The Punjab Government has transferred DSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh from Nakodar to Phillaur and DSP Parampal Singh to IRB in Ladha Kothi, Sangrur. DSP Rajinder Singh has been transferred from Jalandhar to Nakodar.

World Diabetes Day:
Seminar and awareness rally on the 18th World Diabetes Day marked the second day deliberations of the Rajasthan State Conference of Physicians ‘Apicon-2010’ at Rajvi Place in Hanumangarh on Sunday. Local legislator Vinod Chaudhary was the chief guest. The rally was held by the students and teachers of the Nehru Memorial Children Senior Secondary School. The Association of Physicians of India general secretary Dr Milind Nadkar, state president Dr MP Aggarwal, secretary Dr Girish Mathur, Dr Karan Singh Yadav, Dr Narpat S. Shekhawat and organising secretary Dr Brijesh Gaur shared the dais. Eminent physician Dr Surinder Daga, Dr Dhanpat Kochar from Bikaner Medical College, Dr Anil Bhansali noted endocrinologist from PGI Chandigarh, Dr Ramesh Ruparai gastroenterologist from Jaipur, Dr RR Mantri cardiologist from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (New Delhi), Dr SK Sharma and Dr Virender Singh delivered lecture on the occasion.

Interior designing workshop: The interior designing and decoration department of MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, organised an innovative workshop for the children of “Snehalya”, Sector 39. More than 50 students of the college visited the children’s home and taught them “Pillow cover decoration”. The dressed pillow covers were then gifted to children. A room decoration exercise was also conducted, in which children were taught to make texture effects on walls and 3D paintings / art work to design the area aesthetically.

SI held for graft: The Vigilance Bureau caught SI Satbir Singh red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from Narender Kumar of Jattu Lohari village. Jamat Ali, foreman, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Jhojhu Kalan, had also been arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 from Mahender of Gudana village.
