Rail Ticket Scam
GRP yet to file FIR
Dharmendra Joshi/TNS

Jalandhar, October 10
Even after two days of coincidental unearthing of rail ticket scam, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has not filed any FIR in this regard so far.

GRP DSP Narinder Pal Singh said the investigation was still on and the police did not reach to any conclusion so far about the involvement of persons in the forgery of rail tickets.

Narinder Pal Singh said he did not want to lodge any case against unknown persons. Investigating Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh was probing the matter thoroughly, hopefully some concrete evidence would be collected and the guilty would soon be identified, he added.

The DSP said nearly a dozen forged tickets were seized on Monday. Most of these unreserved tickets had been issued by authorised railway agents, whereas two tickets were issued at booking window of Jalandhar city railway station.

Narinder Pal Singh further said it was yet not clear whether the forgery had been done before issuing these tickets or someone else made changes in the date and destination of these tickets. The DSP said statements of four booking clerks and the passengers carrying such tickets had already been recorded.

It may be recalled that the ticket scam coincidentally unearthed on Monday when some passengers had tried to get refund by returning these tickets as they could not catch Jansewa Katihar Express train.

When the booking clerk at Jalandhar Railway Station found these tickets as fake, the matter was referred to GRP which started investigation.

Meanwhile, the DSP did not rule out the possibility of a big scam of forgery in rail tickets and involvement of an organised gang. Only a dozen tickets could be seized, whereas thousands other tickets might have been used unchecked, he said, adding that no guilty person would be spared at all.

Hoshiarpur, November 10
Malta Boat Tragedy Probe Mission chairman Balwant Singh Khera, through his advocate, served a 15-day legal notice on the public information officer of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee, Amritsar, for not providing information to him under the Right to Information Act.

Khera, through a letter on May 18, 2010, sought information regarding the expenditure incurred in the function organised on May 14, 2010, at Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, in connection with the celebration of Baba Banda Bahadur centenary by the SGPC.

But the public information officer of the SGPC, through a letter of May 26, 2010, refused to supply the same under the plea that CWP 4082 of 2010 of the SGPC was pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, therefore, the information could not be given.

The advocate, after inspecting the file of the case in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, found that the stay was granted only in the above case.

The notice said in case of denial of the said information, legal proceedings would be started against the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee.

These leaders said the RSS was an organisation committed to imparting character, discipline and patriotism in society.

The nation was aware of the evil politics of sections of the Congress, they alleged.

They warned the UPA government that it should desist from this sinister move in the larger interest of national unity and social harmony.

Later they presented a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh through the SDM of Hoshiarpur.

District RSS president Kuldeep Mahajan said the RSS had always condemned the violence in all forms and was ready to cooperate with investigation agencies but the agencies were not working fairly so “we were organising protests across the country against the Centre’s anti-Hindu tirade”.
