Students pledge  noise-free Divali:
About 100 students of local Arya Model High School on Tuesday participated in slogan writing and drawing competitions on the topic ‘Pollution and noise-free Divali’. They also took a pledge for celebrating pollution and noise-free Divali. Payal won the slogan writing competition.

Khoya seized:
A team of doctors led by Chief Medical Officer Dr Dalip Kumar inspected the premises of a cold store here on Tuesday and found 284 tins of rasgullas and chamcham. About 2.5 quintals of khoya which was lying unclaimed outside the cold store was seized by district health officials. The seized samples were sent for analysis to the laboratory at Chandigarh.

Sites for sale of crackers: The district administration has banned the sale of fire crackers at places other than those specified in the orders promulgated under section 144 of the CrPC by the District Magistrate, Gurdaspur. While talking to the mediapersons here yesterday, SSP Gurdeep Singh said in view of the order of the District Magistrate, seven places were earmarked for the sale of fire crackers. These places are Old Grain Market, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Sant Rasila Avenue, Ramlila Ground, Umarpura, ITI Qadian, ITI Fatehgarh Churian and Municipal Council and Government Senior Sec School, Sri Hargobindpur.

Pathankot
Scooterist killed:
One persons was killed and another injured when their scooter hit the railing of a flyover near MSP cinema on the Jalandhar-Pathankot-Jammu road here on Tuesday. Nirmal Khosla (47), a contractor and resident of Indira Colony, and his servant Mohammad Saqub were on their way from Damtal to Pathankot when their scooter crashed against the railing of a flyover. They fell in an open drain resulting in the death of Nirmal Khosla.

Wire thief arrested: The police busted a three-member gang of wire thieves here on Tuesday. SHO Dev Dutt Sharma said the work of laying the cable by the BSNL was in progress in the Sailli Kullian area and in the mid-night of Monday three thieves cutting the wire were noticed by the chowkidar of the department who informed the police. Surinder Kumar was nabbed by the police while his two other accomplices fled.
