Indira Gandhi remembered: The 26th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was observed in this sub-division and neighbouring towns of Sadulshehar, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh by the respective Congress committees on Sunday. City Congress president BL Nagpal, Mahila Congress president Veerbala Nagpal and Youth Congress president Varun Verma led the workers at Abohar in offering flower petals at the portrait of Indira Gandhi. In Sriganganagar, Rajesh Thakan, vice-president (Youth Congress) was joined by the party workers in paying tributes.
Fancy dress competition: Misty, Aryan, Sanya, Nitin, Agmani, Saksham, Dhwani Gulati and Risham Phutela won prizes in the fancy dress competition that was organised by the Sachkhand Convent School here, principal Golden Kaur informed on Sunday. TK Ghosh and Sagar Sharma formed the panel of judges.
Office-bearers elected: A unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has been formed in the Abohar Polytechnic College here, state secretary Ajay Kataria informed on Sunday. Shyam Goyal, Satbir Khichad, Kuldeep and Devinder have been unanimously elected as president, vice-president, secretary and cashier respectively of the unit.

Police gets 4 Scorpio vehicles: The Batala Police has got four new Scorpio vehicles to improve patrolling. SSP Gurdeep Singh flagged off the vehicles.
Spurious ghee, spices seized: A health team, led by Chief Medical Officer, Gurdaspur, Dalip Kumar raided a godown in New Market Alliwal Road here on Thursday and seized spurious spices and desi ghee. The team found about 150 bags of salt and about 250 kgs of degi mirch and haldi powder. Degi mirch and haldi contained artificial colour and starch. As much as 4.64 quintals of spurious desi ghee was seized from the godown. Samples had been sent to Punjab Food Testing Laboratory in Chandigarh. The team sealed the godown to take further action after the receipt of report.

Diwali fete held: A grand Diwali fete was organized at RSD Raj Rattan school in Ferozepur. SDM GS Pannu was the chief guest while president of the school SC Sanwalka was the guest of honour. On the occasion, students pledged to have a cracker-free Diwali. Prizes were given to the winners through raffle draw. A fancy dress competition was the main attraction besides a healthy baby contest held in the presence of paeditricians Dr Sheel Sethi and Dr Shikha Asija. Director SP Anand and principal Usha Kiran thanked the guests. Host Sourabh Bamba thanked people and wished them a Happy Diwali.

Diwali fest: Diwali fest was organised at Ashoka Public School,
Sirhind, on Sunday wherein students displayed various cultural and sports items at different stalls. School manager Devinder Verma said it was important to make children aware about their culture and the Diwali fest was an effort to sensitise the schoolchildren about the importance of festive season.

One nabbed for adulteration: The district Health Department along with the police raided the godowns of Deepak Thakur and Harish Thakur at Bassi Gulam Hussain and seized 50 tonnes of spurious desi ghee. Mitra said Deepak Thakur and Harish Thakur used to prepare spurious desi ghee from refined and vegetable oils, by mixing some essence of desi ghee and supplied it in the market. Harish Thakur was arrested, while Deepak is still at large. Huge stock of stickers and labels of various popular brands were also seized.
