Essay writing contest held:The Department of students’ Welfare, University of Jammu, conducted an inter-college on-the-spot essay writing competition here today under the ongoing “Display Your Talent 2010-11” contest.
According to a statement issued here, the topics for the contest were “Cell phone usage among youth”, “Why education is important” and “Is India fit for democracy”.
Participants were required to write an essay between 2,000 and 3,000 words in English or Hindi within the given time of 60 minutes.
Manch to hold children’s rally:
The Duggar Vikas Manch is organising a children’s rally and a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark Accession Day tomorrow.
The rally would start from the historic Mubarakh Mandi complex in the morning and after passing through Chowk
Chabutra, Pacca Danga, Moti Bazaar, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi, City
Chowk, Shalamar, Parade, Kachi Chowni, Palace Road and Panjtirthi culminate at the Mabarakh Mandi complex. In the evening, activists would light 64 candles and distribute a 64 kg ladoos among people to mark the day.
Army Havildar electrocuted:
A 35-year-old Havildar of the 22 Sikh Regiment was electrocuted when he unknowingly came in touch with naked wires at his house in Sungal village of Akhnoor district yesterday, the police said.
The deceased, Karan Singh, who had come to his house on leave, was posted in
Sikkim. The police has initiated inquest proceedings into the incident and has handed over the body to the family after conducting post-mortem at a hospital.
