With the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently booking three former top officials of the UT administration, Lalit Sharma, Krishna Mohan and Vivek Attray, in the theme-cum-amusement park case, the CBI may soon reopen an old inquiry pertaining to allotting contract for advertising on CTU buses against former Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, who also held charge as Transport Secretary at that time.

Effigies worth Rs 25 lakh will go up in flames at about 20 places across the city on Dasehra, with the price of material used for making the effigies having substantially risen over the last one year.

CWG mascot stolen again
Chandigarh, October 16
For the second time in a week, Commonwealth Games (CWG) mascot Shera has been stolen. This time, the mascot has been stolen from outside Sukhna lake’s cafeteria, where it had been installed about a fortnight earlier. Some early morning walkers, who noticed the theft today, reported it to the police. They were shocked to see the empty stand on which the about five-foot Shera was installed. This time, the thieves did not steal Shera alone. They also took away a decorative frog-shaped dustbin located near the mascot. However, some enthusiastic employees of the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation, who started a hunt, located the designer dustbin lying abandoned in the woods near the Rock Garden. The mascot remained untraceable.

DSP offered Rs 25,000: Victim’s father

In the rape case against Harmail Singh, husband of councillor from Mani Majra Sunita Chaudhary, the victim’s father today stated before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge GC Garg that DSP PK Dhawan had offered him Rs 25,000 to withdraw the complaint.

Sohana resident dies, dengue suspected

A resident of Sohana, suspected to be suffering from dengue fever, died at the PGI, Chandigarh, last night. District Health Officer Dr Jai Singh said Pardeep Singh was suffering from fever for the past few days. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Man gets two-year RI for demanding dowry
Ambala, October 16
Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajnish K Sharma sentenced two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 to a resident of Kurukshetra, Harnam Singh, under Section 498-A (torturing a married woman for dowry). He was further sentenced two years imprisonment under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust). Both the sentences would run concurrently.

Injury marks on Ambala inmates fake

Superintendent of Ambala central jail SPS Chauhan said the jail inmates had marked reddish marks on their bodies by applying coal, lemon and Derobin, a skin ointment manufactured by Vardhman Remedies.

The Ambala central jail administration has decided to install a jammer on the jail premises to check the illegal use of mobile phones by inmates. Recently four mobile phones were recovered from the jail inmates during a search campaign.

Three acquitted of culpable homicide

Additional District and Sessions Judge Lalit Batra today acquitted Kunal Singla, Madan Mohan and Mandeep Sharma in a case of culpable homicide of Rishipal Singh, whose body was found on the road separating Sectors 20 and 21 on December 9, 2008.

Rs 50,000 penalty slapped on Thomas Cook

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has asked the branch manager of Thomas Cook (I) Ltd in Sector 9 to pay Rs 50,000 in compensation to Ashwani Kumar Arora for cancelling his hotel reservation.

Rathore’s Stabbing
Police indicts Utsav
Chandigarh, October 16
The UT police today submitted a chargesheet in the local court against Utsav Sharma, who had allegedly stabbed convicted former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore.
The police has filed charges under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Another student loses life on Zirakpur-Dhakoli stretch
Traffic chaos is a common sight near the railway line on the Zirakpur-Dhakoli roadZirakpur, October 16
Another school student became a victim of negligent driving on the Zirakpur-Dhakoli road last night. This is the second fatal accident on the stretch in a week. A 17-year-old schoolgirl was killed on October 14. Two others were killed and five persons sustained injuries in various accidents in the past few months.

Property dealer booked for filing false case

Tables were turned on a property dealer of Dhampur Colony in Pinjore as the Kalka police has booked him for filing a false case of dacoity against the opposite party in a land deal case.

Fiza’s neighbours lodge another complaint

Three months after the Mohali police booked Fiza, alias Anuradha Bali, the estranged wife of Chander Mohan, for allegedly tresspassing into the house of her neighbour and breaking a windowpane and flower pots, yet another complaint against her has been forwarded to the SDM, Mohali, for preventive action against her.
