Anti-encroachment drive
Ambala, October 14 The drive was started from Sadar Bazaar, which is stated to be the heart of Ambala cantonment trading activities. The police had earlier informed the shopkeepers of the twin city to remove their encroachments by October 12 otherwise action would be taken against them. The police took action against 26 shopkeepers for violating traffic rules. Around six vehicles parked on the wrong side of the roads were also impounded. The drive was also initiated on Nikalson Road, Rai Market and Sarafa Bazaar. Some of the shopkeepers protested against the police action. They said no parking place was made adjoining to various markets. The buyers had no option but to park their vehicles on the road, they said. They urged the police administration to make parking place before launching the strict drive. Some of the shopkeepers shuttered down their shops in protest. A similar drive was also launched in Ambala City on the wholesale cloth market road, Shukalkund Road, Bazaar Basti Ram, Bus Stand Road and Jagadhri Gate Road. Additional SP Devender Yadav persuaded the shopkeepers to keep their goods inside their shops. Some of the shopkeepers alleged that the police had been harassing them unnecessarily. Meanwhile, the SP said the drive was launched in public interest. He said some of the shopkeepers had covered up the footpath of the road and kept their goods there. It caused inconvenience to common man and disrupted the normal traffic, he added. He said the campaign would continue. |
