SHO transferred
: Patiala SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill transferred Banur SHO Chand Singh to the Economic Wing, Patiala, on Wednesday. He has been replaced by sub-inspector Karnail Singh. Senior police officials said it was a routine transfer.

Dera Bassi
Two held for vehicle thefts
: The police arrested two persons with stolen vehicles here on Tuesday night. Sukhwant Singh of Rampur Khurd, Patiala, was arrested at a checkpoint on the Dera Bassi-Barwala road while driving a truck stolen from the Dera Bassi Truck Union on October 7. Also, Sukhwinder Singh of Samgouli was arrested with a stolen bike. The two have been booked under Section 379, IPC. They were produced in a local court, which remanded them in one-day police custody.

Seminar held
: The RTI Awareness Forum, Punjab, organised a seminar and a blood donation camp at the Regional Institute here. Founder chairman of the forum Rajiv Vashisht highlighted various aspects of the RTI Act. Later members of the forum donated blood.

Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Eye Donation Association: President - Malkiat Singh Maheru; senior vice-president - Malkiat Singh Sond; vice-presidents - Jasbir Singh and Paramjit Singh Sachdeva; general secretary - Harbans Singh; joint secretary - Gurbax Singh Sandhu; and finance secretary - Raksha Gupta.

Blood donated:
A blood donation camp was organised by the Sri Sai group of engineering colleges at Badhan on Wednesdayl. Sai group chairman S.K. Punj was the chief guest. 140 students donated blood.

Docs awarded: Dr Rajesh Gupta, associate professor, has been given the best oral presentation award for his work on ‘Factors leading to surgery in patients of severe acute pancreatitis managed initially non-operatively’ during the 18th annual conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology in Hyderabad. Dr Vikas Gupta has been given the best poster award for his work on ‘Clinicopathological correlation of preoperative local staging of gastric cancer using 3D multi-detector row computerised tomogram.

HARYANA

Ambala
Section 144 imposed
: District Magistrate Sameer Pal Srow has imposed Section 144 in the district. With this, gathering of five or more persons and carrying of weapons on the premises of educational institutions and within 200 metres of examination centers in Ambala district have been prohibited. Carrying of mobile phones has also been barred on the premises of examination centres from October 14 to November 4. The order will not apply to police and other public servants on duty.

Kalka
Youth booked
: Shafi of Ganeshpur Bhorian village in Pinjore block has been booked for eloping with a minor girl. Om Parkash of the same village had lodged a complaint at the Pinjore police station alleging that the accused had eloped with his 16-year-old daughter. The police has registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC.

Medicines stolen from truck: Miscreants decamped with 57 boxes of medicines from a truck here. In his complaint, truck owner Tara Chand of Solan district claimed that his driver Salim had loaded on to the truck a consignment of 2,538 boxes from a factory at Jharmajri, HP, and was to deliver it at Zirakpur. Salim had parked the truck at his residence in Rajjipur, near Surajpur, from where the medicines were later found missing. A case has been registered.

Karnal: The Haryana Institute of Fine Arts (HIFA) has invited entries for the fifth “Karma Samman” for 2009-10 that is conferred annually on individuals for their outstanding achievement in social and cultural fields.
