Conference on adolescent health held
:The department of social and preventive medicine, GGS Medical College, Faridkot, held the Vth annual conference of IAPSM. The theme was ‘Adolescent Health Care: Issues & Challenges.’Dr DS Sidhu, Registrar, BFUHS, Faridkot, inaugurated the meet. Health experts including Dr DS Sidhu, Dr PS Sandhu, dean, BFUHS, Faridkot, Dr KS Kajal, principal, Dr Ravinder Kaur Shukla, examination controller, BFUHS, Faridkot, Dr Amarjeet Singh, Prof and HoD, SPM, Dr Sunder Lal, president, IAPSM, Dr Arvinder Nagpal, project director, Guru Angad Dev Hospital, Ludhiana, Dr Harjeet Bharti, civil surgeon, presented their views.

Cops attacked
: A group of about a dozen persons, including women, allegedly assaulted a police raiding party when it caught an alleged Dara Satta operator red-handed, while he was noting the numbers of Dara, and got him released from police custody at Tanda, 32 km from here, last evening. According to police sources, the police party raided the premises of Nikka, at Tanda, when he was noting the numbers of Dara last evening. Police arrested Nikka and recovered Rs 1,480 cash, ballpoint pen, paper etc. from him. Meanwhile, Nikka’s brother Surjit, mother Veena, neighbours Rani, Sham Piari and at least 10 other men and women assaulted the raiding party and got Nikka freed. They also snatched Rs 1,480 and other goods, recovered from the accused, by the police. During the assault, the uniform of one of the policemen was also ripped up. The police has registered a case under the relevant sections of the IPC and Gambling Act, in this connection.

Man shot at: Sanjiv Kumar of Bencha Baja got serious bullet wounds last night, when two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons fired shots at him near Khokhar (Tanda), about 40 km from here. According to police sources, Sanjiv Kumar was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Tanda, from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur. Sanjiv, who is a painter by profession, was returning to his house on a bicycle from Bhogpur along with two others (also on bicycle). On the way, when they reached near Khokhar village at about 9:30 pm, two youths on a motorcycle suddenly appeared and fired at Sanjiv, due to which he was seriously wounded. The police has started investigation to ascertain the cause of the firing and to nab the culprits.

Women found dead
: An aged woman was found dead at her house located at Surat Nagar locality at Jinda village falling under the jurisdiction of police division number one on Sunday. Her tenants reportedly strangled Simar Kaur (65) to death to steal her gold ornaments, including earrings and rings. Simar Kaur and her husband Pritam Singh (70), a retired Army man, had let out one room set located on the first floor of their house to the family just a day before Saturday. SHO Nirmal Singh said the incident occurred during wee hours when Pritam Singh was away on his job of security guard in a factory at Focal Point. When he returned from his job in the morning, he found Simar Kaur murdered. The SHO said a man along with his wife and daughter took a room on rent but after the incident the trio had fled from the house. A case has been registered. 

Tarn Taran
Schoolgirl molested
: Two boys of Kalsian Kalan village have been booked under sections 354, 341 and 34 of the IPC for molesting a girl studying in Class VIII when she had returning home from school on her bicycle. The boys have been identified as Kali and Satta. In her statement to the police, she alleged that the accused on a motorcycle took her to nearby Gurdwara Tahla Sahib and molested her. On raising an alarm, the accused fled the spot.

CHANDIGARH

1 held with weapon: The police today arrested a resident of Muktsar (Punjab) for carrying weapon without permission. The accused has been identified as Azad Veer Singh (25). A naka was laid at the road dividing Sectors 35 and 36. The weapon was licensed but the accused did not have the permission to carry it. A case has been registered under Section 188 of the IPC.

: GBPEC got the better of Beehive College 2-0 in a football quarterfinals during the Uttarakhand Technical University Inter-College Games held here today. Deepak (21st minute) and Akash Chhetri (30th) scored two goals for the winning team. In another quarterfinals, DIT posted a big 6-0 triumph over SBS.
