MC to cover Kharar choe
Kharar, October 3
“We plan to complete it within a year. Before next monsoon, the entire choe will be covered, bringing relief to people living in areas, along the choe,” Romana said. The department started working on the project in July from plot no 2 of Sunny Enclave. Some of the portion was covered, but work came to a standstill due to heavy rains. Besides covering choe with roller-compacted concrete (RCC) technology, manholes will be constructed at different places. The department is facing problem from some persons, who are demanding that backyard of their houses (facing choe), be spared. Also, as per the revenue record, some of the portion near Sunny Enclave has been marked as small approach road and not a choe. “We are trying to make people understand that covering the choe is in larger interest of people,” added MC officials. The choe add to the woes of residents during the monsoon season. Around 16.5 feet wide, the rivulet carries the wastewater of 12 colonies of Mundi Kharar, Desu Majra, and empties near Khanpur village where the dirty water get clogged creating further nuisance for village residents of Khanpur and Garden Colony. “Those staying near the choe are exposed to the dirt and stench, especially during the monsoon, but no one is bothered despite repeated requests,” said Manjit Kaur, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar. |

Pending work: MLA submits memorandum to DC
Ambala, October 3 He said battered roads were not a new thing for them. “Whom can we blame for this? The municipal corporation does not bother to fill up dug-up portions of roads,” said the BJP leader. Pointing towards the poor condition of roads in main bazaars of Cantonment and colonies behind Banarsi Das Mill, Vij said the potholes seemed as big as ever. Roads were in a bad shape and needed repair, he added. The visibly poor condition of roads in the city despite the claims of having spent a substantial amount on improving them over the years could be attributed to the failure of officials in following required specifications while repairing roads, said another social worker Vijay Kumar. Vij said the state government did not take timely measures. It failed to plug breaches of canals and clean up drains on time. No cleanliness drive had been initiated. He said a few days ago a contract had been signed with Sulabh International for sanitation work, but no worker could be seen anywhere. He added that six months had passed since the formation of seven municipal bodies, but appointments were still pending. All civic amenities in the district had collapsed, as drains were choked. |
