3 buffaloes electrocuted: Three buffaloes were electrocuted at Moretikhri village near here on Tuesday when an electricity wire of 11,000 volts fell on them. The buffaloes, which belonged to Mohinder Singh, died on the spot.

Pensioners’ rally on Sept 29: The Punjab Government Pensioners Joint Front has decided to organise a protest rally on September 29 at Mohali in support of its demands, including release of arrears for 43 months related to the revision of pension with effect from January 1, 2006, and revision of pension on the basis of notional fixation of pay. In a press release here, front convener Mohinder Singh Parwana said after the protest rally, the pensioners would gherao the Punjab Assembly. Pathankot
Two arrested: The police arrested one proclaimed offender Balbir Singh, alias Pinka, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu, here yesterday. DSP Naresh Dogra said the accused was involved in the bomb blast in buses in 1997 and a case had been registered against him under sections 302, 307 and 427 of the IPC and sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Act at Pathankot police division-1. He was evading his arrest since 1997. Meanwhile, the Gurdaspur police seized 20 gram of smack from Tarsem Lal, a resident of Gali Luharan, Amritsar.
