3 buffaloes electrocuted
: Three buffaloes were electrocuted at Moretikhri village near here on Tuesday when an electricity wire of 11,000 volts fell on them. The buffaloes, which belonged to Mohinder Singh, died on the spot.

Pensioners’ rally on Sept 29
: The Punjab Government Pensioners Joint Front has decided to organise a protest rally on September 29 at Mohali in support of its demands, including release of arrears for 43 months related to the revision of pension with effect from January 1, 2006, and revision of pension on the basis of notional fixation of pay. In a press release here, front convener Mohinder Singh Parwana said after the protest rally, the pensioners would gherao the Punjab Assembly.

Two arrested
: The police arrested one proclaimed offender Balbir Singh, alias Pinka, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu, here yesterday. DSP Naresh Dogra said the accused was involved in the bomb blast in buses in 1997 and a case had been registered against him under sections 302, 307 and 427 of the IPC and sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Act at Pathankot police division-1. He was evading his arrest since 1997. Meanwhile, the Gurdaspur police seized 20 gram of smack from Tarsem Lal, a resident of Gali Luharan, Amritsar. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him.

YC workers stage dharna
: Youth Congress workers staged a dharna today here in front of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office protesting against the arrest of the state President of the Youth Congress and Lok Sabha MP Ravneet Singh Bittu. Sukhdev Bhargav, district general secretary of the Youth Congress, told that a memorandum was also presented to the officials.

School board exams now from Oct 14:
Due to heavy rain and floods in the state, the Haryana Board of School Education has postponed all examinations, which were to commence from September 22. Now, the examinations will be held from October 14. A spokesperson for the board said here today that the new date sheet would be announced soon and the students informed.

Sonepat
Property dealer shot dead:
Kuldeep, a property dealer, was killed while his brother, Pradeep, sustained bullet injuries when an assailant opened fire on the duo near Gohana town in Sonepat district today. The deceased, a resident of Mundlana village in Gohana, was going to the village from Gohana on a motorcycle along with his brother when they were fired upon. The duo was rushed to hospital with bullet injuries, but Kuldeep succumbed to the injuries on the way. Pradeep has been admitted to the PGIMS. His condition is stated to be stable.
