Sewerage System in Pinjore
Kalka, September 21 The department was to set up 18 tubewells in rural area and four tubewells in the urban area, the information sought under the RTI Act by Vijay Bansal, president, Shivalik Vikas Manch, said. Under the first phase, Rs 1 crore was granted to the Public Health Department. The department had started the lying of pipelines but the work was left in the lurch for more than one-and-a-half year. The state government had also sanctioned Rs 71.80 lakh for setting up four tubewells in Kalka, out of which Rs 50 lakh had been granted. Similarly, Rs 31 lakh had been sanctioned under the Indira Gandhi Drinking Water Scheme for free drinking water connections for the SC category people. As many as Rs 38 lakh had been granted for the construction of the Sewerage Treatment Plant in Kalka. Notably, a delegation of inhabitants of Pinjore, headed by Vijay Bansal, in February last year, met Randeep Singh Surjewala, Public Health Minister, and had submitted a memorandum urging for the approval of the long-pending projects in Pinjore and Kalka. In the first quarter of 2009, the delegation had also met Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda in this context. The Haryana government, to cope with the water scarcity problem, had sanctioned Rs 4.80 crore under the Special Urban Scheme to meet the water shortage problem in Pinjore. Out of which Rs 1.50 crore had already been granted. Under the scheme, the Department of Haryana Water Supply and Sanitation (Public Health) had started work on the project of setting up of four tubewells, boosting stations and laying water pipelines in Pinjore town. The experts say that the residents of Pinjore have been facing acute water shortage, as the water level of the wells have been going down rapidly. They also add that the the residents are forced to drink contaminated water as the under ground water of the wells and water supply pipelines in the area have got mixed up with the sewer water in most parts of the town, which could lead to spreading of epidemic. |

Law class interrupted by drunkard
Chandigarh, September 21 The drama lasted 20 minutes, during which the unidentified man misbehaved with the teacher, stared at girls and even “ragged” students in the class, who were giving a presentation. Later, the police and the university security took him away after the teacher’s intervention. The “outsider” entered the fifth semester evening class in the department, minutes after the commencement of lecture at 7 pm. Ironically, the classroom is next to the office of the chairperson of the department. The university staff on duty did not know that a drunkard had dared to enter the room. Once inside the class, the outsider misbehaved with Dinesh Talwar, the teacher who was delivering his lecture, and then began staring at students, particularly females, in the jam-packed classroom. When the teacher interrupted and questioned his credentials, he replied, “aap humare teacher hain, guru hain, apni bezati na kara liyo mujhse” (your are our teacher, our guru, do not get yourself insulted by me). He then attempted to physically misbehave with the teacher, who swung into action and quickly locked him inside the class. The police was called by the teacher. While the teacher rushed to call the police and the PU security, the “outsider” sat on the teacher’s chair and began misbehaving with students. He instructed them to continue their presentation and said “what if the teacher has walked out, I will take the presentation now”. “We were all in a state of shock. What if a bigger and worse incident happens tomorrow? We know that Chandigarh is among the target of terrorists and if we are held hostage so easily, will be police and university security keep sleeping like they did today?” said an angered student. The apathy of the PU security does not end here. Immediately after he was brought out, the outsider managed to slip out of the hands of the two university guards. The man was later caught by the police at some distance. |
