Teenaged girl abducted: A teenaged girl of the local Adamwal was allegedly abducted by Kamal Kumar, son of Muni Lal of the same locality, along with two unidentified persons. The Sadar police has registered a case under sections 363 and 366 of the IPC. According to police sources, Pankaj Kumar, son of Mansa Ram of the local Adamwal, alleged that Kamal Kumar and two unidentified persons had abducted his daughter Neelam Kumari (15) for marrying with her.

Office-bearers: Atma Ram Verma has been unanimously elected as the president of the Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar Welfare Society
(Regd). Society general secretary OP Chandpuri said entire committee of the office-bearers of the society was constituted during the general house meeting of the society held recently. He said MS Bhinder and Dr HS Sohal had been elected as the patron, whereas DS Shergill and Randhir Singh Gill had been appointed as vice-president and joint secretary, respectively. The other office-bearers of the society include Bhupinder Verma (cashier), SS Verma (legal adviser), Surinder Sharma (press secretary) and SS Sekhon
(organising secretary). Paramatma Singh, Anil Goyal, Vinod Sharma, Gobinder
Sohal, Rajinder Kumar, Amrik Singh Batra, Gurpreet Singh, Avinash Gauar and Preet Kamaljit have been unanimously elected as executive committee members of the society.

Punjab Police Academy gets new director: Rohit Choudhary, IPS, today joined as a Director of Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur. Choudhary is a 1988 batch IPS officer and holds degrees in Bachelor of Engineering and Post Graduate in Public Policy & Management.
While speaking on the occasion, he asserted that police should be sensitive to public needs and should be accountable for their actions and deeds. Earlier in the day, all officers and trainees of the academy extended a hearty welcome to the new Director.

Dowry: 5 of in-laws’ family booked: Five members of an in-laws’ family of Ferozepore have been booked under sections 498-A, 406, 148 and 149, IPC, by the Sarhali police for torturing a married girl for dowry. SSP Preetpal Singh Virk told newsmen here today that a case had been registered on the complaint of Rajwant Rani, daughter of Chaman Lal of Chambal village, 10 km from here. The SSP said the accused were Pawandeep Kumar, husband of the victim, Darshan Dyal, Satya Rani, Gagandeep and Rakhi, father, mother, brother and sister of Pawandeep, respectively. Rajwant Rani was married to Pawandeep in April, 2007, and the accused ousted her from the home after torturing some time back as she failed to bring Rs 2 lakh from her parents. `
5 lakh duped by travel agents: Fake travel agents, Dubai-based Mehtab Singh and his brother Talwinder Singh, resident of Jaura village, 15 km from here, duped two persons of Rs 5.05 lakh on the promise of settling them in New Zealand. According to the information received here today, a case under sections 420 and 34, IPC, has been registered by the police. Bhola Singh of Chauki Mann village (Jagraon) in a written complaint to the district police alleged that accused Mehtab Singh while in Dubai with him lured to settle him in New Zealand. The accused demanded Rs 3.50 lakh for the job. Mehtab Singh and his brother Talwinder Singh took Rs 2.05 lakh from Bhola Singh here last year. The accused failed to send him to New Zealand and did not return his money. Bhola alleged that Mehtab also took Rs 3.50 lakh from Kulwinder Singh living in Dubai for the same purpose. The district police got the allegations investigated by a DSP-ranked officer and registered the case. Head constable killed in road accident: Head constable Navtej Kumar (35) posted at the city police station died in a road accident late last evening when his jeep collided with a truck near Naushehra Pannuan, 14 km from here. A case under sections 304-A, 279 and 427, IPC, was registered against the driver of the truck (PB-02 AP-9991) who could not be identified as he fled after the accident. The truck belonged to the Rana group mills. Navtej was on his way to his Nathupur village, near Harike, after his duty hours. He was on his Jeep (PB-02 AD-6786) when he was hit by the truck. He received serious injuries as a results he died on the way to hospital.
