Highway robbers flee with Rs 3-lakh hosiery goods
Ludhiana, September 5
Two local hosiery manufacturers suffered a double blow after robbers fled with hosiery goods worth Rs 3 lakh being transported in a vehicle on a highway near Murthal in Haryana today morning. As if to rub salt on the industrialists’ wounds the Murthal police thrashed the vehicle’s driver and refused to register a case in the incident.

MC leaves work half done
Ludhiana, September 5
Two roads in Sarabha Nagar G block were dug up last year for the setting up of the storm sewer but it seems the Municipal Corporation has forgotten to re-carpet the roads. These two roads are giving tough time to the commuters living in the area. Though stones have been laid but further work has been halted.

Man commits suicide
Ludhiana, September 5
A 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in Jodhewal Basti here today. The deceased, identified as Ramesh Kumar, ran a printing unit from his residence.

Free blood transfusion for thalassaemic kids

A sense of happiness and cheerfulness prevailed among families of children suffering from thalassaemia, as the Salaam Zindagi Foundation announced to bear all their expenses. Ashok Dawar, president of the foundation, and Nishant Arora, secretary, Youth Chemist Welfare Club, announced that they would bear the expenses of blood transfusion of 36 children.

‘Minor fall can result in pelvic fractures’

Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) started a “pelvic and acetabular” course today. The course was inaugurated by DMCH principal Dr Daljit Singh who was accompanied by vice-principal Dr Jagdeep Whig, Dean, academics, Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina and medical superintendents Dr Sandeep Puri and Dr BS Shah.

The highly professional approach of the teachers in today’s age is the root cause in encouraging the rote system, thus making students as automation machines, incapable of handling broader issues of existence. Even if the students tend to be inherently motivated, humanitarian concerns may not be able to cope up with the business minded approach of the mentors - both in and out of the classrooms.

Tewari lashes out at state govt on development

Claiming that the meagre development taking place in the state is on account of funds provided by the Centre, Ludhiana MP and national spokesperson of the All-India Congress Committee, Manish Tewari, has rapped the Punjab government for tall claims on the development front.

Shopkeeper alleges assault, damage
Owner’s heir refutes charge; probe begins

The local police has initiated a probe following the complaint of a local trader against his landlords of damaging the roof of his shop in an attempt to dislodge him. The complainant alleged that his landlords, along with some goons, had assaulted him after forcibly entering the shop. Refuting the allegations, Ashupam Kaur maintained that they had got debris removed from the roof in compliance with court orders and did not know anything about damage to the roof.

BJP biased against Cong constituencies, says Tewari

Ludhiana MP and national spokesperson of the All-India Congress Committee Manish Tewari today lambasted the SAD-BJP government in the state for discriminating against the assembly segments represented by the Congress. He was addressing a series of public meetings in Dakha, previously Qila Raipur assembly constituency, represented by Congress MLA Jassi Khangura.

Two robbery accused escape from CIA HQ
One rearrested, 2 cops booked for negligence
Jagraon, September 5
Two suspected robbers, who had been overpowered by local residents and handed over to the police, escaped from the CIA headquarters here yesterday. One of the suspects was later nabbed last evening while the second was still at large. The police has booked the suspects and two cops under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC for fleeing from custody and dereliction of duty, respectively.


PAU Club scrape past Ludhiana academy
Ludhiana, September 5
In a see-saw battle, PAU Club, Ludhiana, managed to overpower their spirited opponents, Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA), in the men's section during the fifth week matches of the inaugural edition of the Mahindra NBA Basketball Challenge League being held at Guru Nanak Stadium. PAU Club were trailing 23-31 at half time.
