8 persons have died on ‘killer stretch’

With no traffic lights and roundabouts, the road from the Sukhna Lake to the roundabout near the Punjab Civil Secretariat is a killer stretch. This is confirmed by the accident figures. The death of two cousins from Kansal village — 21-year-old Sukhwinder Singh and seven-year-old Harpreet Singh — last night is a grim reminder of other fatal accidents.

Minor fire at PGI parking
Chandigarh, August 18
A minor fire broke out at the basement of the multi-level parking of the PGI in front of the new OPD building here today. No loss was reported. Labourers spotted the fire in the basement around 3:30 pm, while construction work was in progress for the expansion of the parking. The fire was extinguished before it could spread.
