DAV official denies manipulation:Reacting to a news item published in these columns today regarding irregularities in PhD enrolments, Regional Director of DAVIET
C.L. Kochher denied any manipulation at his end. “The enrolments of my daughters are absolutely in order. Punjab Technical University has properly processed and assessed their applications before granting them enrolments for PhD,” he claimed in a statement here today.

PO arrested: The Sidhwan police has nabbed a proclaimed offender who had absconded during trial of an FIR registered against him under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC three years ago. Desa Singh, a resident of Dhangari village under the Bilga police station, was nabbed while he was trying to leave the area on Friday. He was booked in a theft case three years ago and declared proclaimed offender during the trial.

2 vehicle thieves arrested: The police busted an inter-district gang of vehicle thieves and arrested its two members, identified as Sumesh Kumar and Deepak Bassi of
Ludhiana, from near sugar mill chowk here today. The police recovered two motorcycles and two scooters from them. Kapurthala SSP Ram Singh said the arrested gang members had confessed to their crimes.
