Teachers training camp
: A five-day teachers training camp was conducted on “Micro teaching and audio-visual aids” from July 19-23, at Guru Nanak college for Girls. Sri Muktsar Sahib. TKGhosh and G Nandi, training officials from the Central Staff Training and Research Institute, Kolkata, DGE&T enhanced leading skills. Union Ministry of Labour organised brainstorming sessions for participants. In the valedictory session, principal, Dr Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal thanked the resource persons TK Ghosh G Nandi.

Two held for forgery
: City Police, Jalalabad have booked two youths, impersonating as students, during the supplementary exam in Shivalik Senior Secondary School Jalalabad on Thursday. They have been identified as Harmesh Kumar, a resident of village Arianwala and Sushil Kumar, a resident of village Balluana. In-charge Mohinder Singh nabbed them during the raid at  the examination hall. They have reportedly confessed to the crime.

49 cops promoted:
Ludhiana SSP (rural) Harinder Singh Chahal today promoted 49 constables to the rank of head constable.The official exhorted them to perform their duties with efficiency and honesty. The SSP said the promotions had been effected on the orders of the Punjab DGP.
Those promoted will attend a refresher course of two months to PAP, Phillaur.

: Parminder, Paramjit and Kamaljit of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, pursuing P.G. Diploma in Cosmetology scored 90 per cent, 81 per cent and 80 per cent marks, respectively, in examinations conducted by GND University.

Farm worker electrocuted:
A migrant labourer was electrocuted while irrigating the fields at Burj Naklian village, near here, yesterday. The worker, identified as Rajinder Sardar (35), of Bihar had been working in the fields of Paramjit Singh for some time. The police has initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174, CrPC, on the statement of Paramjit Singh.

Misuse of LPG cylinders: SDM toughens stand
: SDM Bakhtawar Singh has instructed the officials of Food and Civil Supplies to take legal action against persons misusing LPG cylinders and instructed to make new ration cards for deserving beneficiaries. He was addressing a meeting of the Grievance Redressal Committee here in which it was brought to the notice of the administration the misuse of LPG for commercial purposes.

Launched: Anti Crime Anti Corruption Cell (ACAC), a non-government organisation (NGO), to prevent crime and corruption is launched in the city here on Thursday. Jagdish Singh Diwan, national president of the ACAC, said the aim was to prevent crime and corruption by spreading awareness among people. They would also spread awareness about honour killing, traffic violations and other menaces like female foeticide.

Theft Cases: Another gang member surrenders
: In a related development to the recent arrest of a gang of youngsters, who graduated from committing petty thefts to heinous crimes and used their juvenile status to escape harsh punishment, another suspect in the case today landed in judicial custody. The suspect, identified as Shine, who is wanted in the snatching case today surrendered in the Kurali court. Several cases of vehicle thefts and snatching in Kurali, Ludhiana, Patiala, Panchkula and Chandigarh have been traced to the gang. The police is hopeful that once Shine was questioned, other crimes committed in the past would be revealed.

Fire at shop
: Furniture and other goods worth lakhs were gutted at the Kalgidhar Enclave market here on Wednesday night. A fire tender from Dera Bassi was pressed into service. It took two hours to bring the fire under control. Fire officer BS Sandhu said the fire might have been caused due to a short circuit as there was no fire safety system at the showroom.

Names shortlisted for deputation
: The Haryana government has finalised names of four HCS officers for deputation to the Chandigarh administration. According to sources, the officers who will be on deputation to the administration include Mahavir Kaushik, Lalit Kumar, Maheshwar Sharma and Tilak Raj. They are among 12 officers, who were shortlisted by the government for deputation to the administration. The administration is already facing acute shortage of the officers from Haryana with more three officers--Ashwani Kumar, Samwartak Singh and Bhupinder Singh--also set to be repatriated to Haryana

KALKA
Canter falls into khud
: A canter (HR-45A-4362), which was on its way to Solan from Nilokheri, Haryana, fell into a khud opposite forest complex, Pinjore. According to the police, driver of the canter Om Parkash, who had a narrow escape, has been booked under the Motor Vehicle Act.
