Bathinda
Fitness test from July 26
: The Sub-Board (woman constable recruitment), Bathinda, is going to start physical tests to select woman police constables from July 26 to August 1. The tests, which are for candidates from Bathinda, Mansa, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Moga, will be conducted at Police Lines, Bathinda. The officials informed that queries would be entertained at three phone numbers - 0164-2240230, 88722-00126 and 88722-00127. Besides, information can be collected from the district police’s official website (www.bathindapolice.com), the officials said. 

One killed in property dispute: In an old property dispute, a person was killed when a group of persons allegedly assaulted them on Saturday at village Madi in this district. The police has lodged a case in this connection. However, till the filing of the report, no arrest had been made. 

Digital design using verilog: A five-day Punjab Technical University (PTU) sponsored faculty development programme on ‘Digital design using verilog’ commenced at the Guru Gobind Singh College of Engineering and Technology (GGSCET), Talwandi Sabo, on Monday. GGSCET spokesperson Gurpreet Soni said Dr RK Sharma, professor at NIT Kurukshetra, was the technical expert for the programme. Faculty members from different PTU affiliated colleges are attending the programme, he added.

Launch of special tariff: Tata Docomo, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices Ltd, announced the launch of a ‘Special Tariff Voucher 53’ for its prepaid subscribers in Punjab circle. With this prepaid voucher, customers can now make all locals calls at rates as low as 40 paise per minute, announced Aditya Gupta, HUB Head, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

Workshop for faculty
: In order to prepare the faculty of the IET, Bhaddal, for global world scenario, a workshop on Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) training began on Monday. Workshop organiser Rupinder Kaur said the CCNA has total four modules, which will be conveyed one by one to the faculty through different workshops and after clearing the online test they will become certified trainers for this course.

Chess meet: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise a Women Chess Championship from July 24 at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, here. A team of four players will be selected during the meet to represent city chess team in the National Women Challenger Championship to be held at Assam from August 20. 

Hawan organised: MCMDAV College for Women organised a hawan on Monday to mark the beginning of a new session. More than 3,000 students and faculty members participated in the prayer ceremonies. On the occasion, Dr Dev Vrat, principal, Gurukul, Kurukshetra, interacted with students and highlighted the significance of proper balance in various facets of life through naturopathy. He elaborated on the benefits of natural healing in day to day life. 

Orientation programme: Post Graduate Government College, Sector 42, organised an orientation programme for the first year students on Monday. Principal Mani Bedi addressed and motivated the students to achieve all round excellence. The faculty members explained the students about the career oriented programmes viz., bioinformatics, tourism, event management and environmental auditing available in the college.

Vanamahotsava celebrated
: Students at Small Wonders School, Phase VII, Mohali, celebrated vanamahotsava, highlighting the importance of green cover on Earth. While addressing students on the occasion, director Sandeep Singh apprised them of the depleting green canopies and the disadvantages it has. Students of class III presented a skit that highlighted the need to save trees.

Murder bid
: The police has arrested Naresh Yadav, who allegedly made a bid to eliminate his uncle Hari Singh Yadav (70) by shooting him on his chest at Kharkhara village on Saturday. He was produced in a local court on Sunday, which remanded him in police custody for two days.
