Man run over by train: A resident of Madanpur Chhaleri village got killed on Tuesday while crossing railway tracks near the Rajpura railway flyover in the city. The deceased has been identified as Swaran Singh Sonu. The Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said inquest proceedings had been initiated in this connection and the body would be handed over to the deceased’s family members after the autopsy.
Two electricians injured: Two employees of the electricity department got injured on Tuesday while they were rectifying a fault in electricity wires in Subhash Market. The injured have been identified as Netar Singh and Narinder Kumar. They were standing on the roof of a shop which collapsed and both of them received fractures in their legs. The shopkeepers failed to understand as how the roof, made of iron shed, collapsed. The injured were rushed to the local civil hospital where they were undergoing treatment.

Pedestrian hit by bike, dies: A 32-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a motorcycle on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway near Silver City on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Mangal Singh, a resident of Kurali. The incident took place when Mangal Singh, along with his relative Gurbwant Singh, was walking towards the Zirakpur side when a motorcycle coming from the opposite side hit him. He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the GMCH-32 where he died during the treatment. The motorcyclist managed to flee from the spot. A case has been registered.
Illegal colonies: The police booked two persons on Wednesday for allegedly developing unauthorised colonies in Zirakpur and surrounding villages. The investigating officer stated that the accused have been booked under the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act, 1995. They were identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sector 16, Chandigarh, and Mehar Singh, a resident of Gazipur Saniyan village. The officer said a GMADA official had lodged a complaint with the SSP, Mohali, accusing that the promoters had developed the colonies in Zirakpur and Gazipur village without any permission.
