Blood-donation camps today:
The Youth Akali Dal and the Students’ Organisation of India, both front organisations of the SAD, have planned to celebrate the 49th birthday of SAD chief Sukhbir Badal by collecting more than 25,000 units of blood in a series of blood-donation camps at all district headquarters on July 9.

Bathinda
Entrepreneurship development programme:
North India Technical Consultancy Organisation Limited (NITCON) is going to organise an entrepreneurship development programme in Bathinda from July 16 at the District Employment Office. The programme will be of six-weeks and 25 candidates would be imparted training in fruit and vegetable processing.

Couple dies of snakebite:
A man and his wife of Mubarkpur village died of snakebite while sleeping on Wednesday. They were migrant labourers belonging to Uttar Pradesh. The deceased were identified as Sakeera and his wife Raveena. While Sakeera died in the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, Raveena breathed her last in Dera Bassi.

Mango fest:
The Hotel President will organise Monsoon and Mango Mania for 10 days starting from Thursday on wards. A press note issued by Amit Vij of the hotel said that the festival will be dedicated to mangos. Music weekend nights, combo meals, special kids meal, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, special salad buffet and surprise gifts would the special attraction of the festival.

Courses at RIMT:
The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), MHRD, Government of India, has approved second shift in RIMT-Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh, for BTech in electronics and communication engineering and computer science and engineering with an intake of 60 each. 

Phagwara
Burglary:
Some unidentified burglars struck a mobile phone shop and took away 12 mobiles sets, including six new mobile phones and other valuables worth Rs 20,000 at the local Satnampura locality late last night. According to reports, the shop owner noticed the theft early in the morning. Police has registered a case.

Draftsman transferred: Rajinder Arora, a draftsman in the UT estate office, has been transferred on a complaint and Sandeep Kumar from CP (III) of the engineering department has replaced him.

‘Hooda’s statement misleading’:
Holding Punjab responsible for flooding of areas in Haryana was a misleading statement made by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. This was stated by the Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, here on Thursday. He said it was against the spirit of Punjabis to cause damage to neighbours. He further asserted Punjab would assert for royalty in river water.

The Punjabi Lekhak Sabha today announced Darshan Kaur as its election commissioner for conducting the elections to the president’s post of the sabha. The elections will be held on July 18 on the premises of Gurdwara Baba Fateh Singh, Gandhi Nagar.
