City’s Sujjan 4th in PGTI ranking
Chandigarh, July 8 His triumph over Anura Rohana of Sri Lanka in the play-off was a show of resilience after the two had tied for the top slot at seven under 281 in regulation play. An alumni of Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Sujjan has been showing good form. In January, he finished runner-up in the Bangladesh Open. He demonstrated his fighting spirit when he fought back from an overnight fifth slot firing a three under 69 on the final day to climb up the ladder to occupy the second slot, five strokes behind the Bangladesh home favourite Mohammed Siddikur Rahman. It has been a big leap forward for Sujjan who finished a lowly 52nd in the 2009 PGTI Order of Merit. But this year, this city boy, who took to golf rather late after dabbling with squash and football in school, is all set to make it big on the greens. He currently holds the fourth slot in the all-India rankings. He has missed the cut only once in the nine PGTI events he has played so far. Of them, he finished in the top-10 twice and clinched the title once (at Panchkula). He dedicated his Panchkula triumph to his parents and described it as “a dream come true”. Sujjan has been working hard on his game and feels that the years of hard work now seem to be coming together. Sujjan is fourth on the merit list which is headed by Shamim Khan (Delhi), who occupies the top slot with one win in nine outings. Shamim has showed a better result with six top-10 finishes.
