Martyr’s anniversary: Family members of late subedar Pal Singh of Devinagar village, who had died in the Kargil war in 2003, lamented that the government had failed to fulfil its promise made at the first death anniversary of the martyr.
Charanjit, son of the martyr, said the seventh death anniversary of the martyr was observed on Wednesday, but no official or prominent politician from the ruling party turned up on the occasion. An announcement to name a road and school after the name of the martyr remains unfulfilled. The
SDM, Dera Bassi, said he was not aware about any announcements made in memory of the martyr.
Husband booked: The husband of the woman, Kusam
Devi, who had allegedly committed suicide, was booked under the charges of abetment to suicide in the Lalru police station on Wednesday. According to information, Ved
Parkash, a resident of Nagla village, Mohali, was booked under Section 306 of the
IPC. The case was registered on the statement of the brother of Kusam
Devi. The complainant, Rajbir Singh, stated that his sister was harassed by her husband over one pretext or the other. Kusam Devi had allegedly set herself on fire on April 8 and she succumbed to her injuries in a hospital on Tuesday.

70-year-old found dead: A 70-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Rulda Singh, a resident of Maheshpura village situated on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road.

PO arrested: A proclaimed offender (PO), Ram, resident of Bakhlaur, who was wanted by the Mukandpur police in a case registered against him under sections 406 and 420 of the IPC in 2007, has been arrested by the Mukandpur police under the special drive launched by the SSP, Narinder Bhargav.
Hostel opened:
The Sandhu Institute of Nursing, Mahalon, organised a religious ceremony to mark the inauguration of a hostel building for B.Sc( Nursing) students here on Wednesday. Dr D.P.S. Sandhu, former Director, Health and Family Welfare, Principal Sukhminder Kaur, staff and students participated in the ceremony. The hostel having the capacity of 60 students has been equipped with the ultramodern facilities.
Minibus operators: The minibus operators of the state have been totally unhappy by the new Minibus Policy, recently announced by the state government, as the policy published in the Motor Transport Gadget is totally in contrast with the decisions taken by the Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, during the meetings with the representatives of the minibus operators’ union.

Pbi varsity results: Punjabi University, Patiala, on Wednesday declared the results of BA (III), BCA (III) and BSc (biotechnology). The results will be available on the university website www.punjabiuniversity.ac.in. Controller (examinations) Pawan Kumar Singla said 15 annual results of various classes had already been declared.

Petroleum dealers: The Petroleum Dealers Association, Kapurthala district, has urged the state government to reduce VAT on petroleum products on the pattern of Haryana and Himachal Pardesh so that these could be provided at equal rates throughout the region. In a meeting, headed by Swaran Singh Jaswal, held here on Wednesday, the association urged the government to act fast as thousands of persons, including tourists, were preferring to fill their vehicles with fuel from Chandigarh, Haryana or Himachal Pardesh in place of Punjab and the state was suffering financial loss in crores.

One killed in accident: A person was killed in an accident today. The deceased has been identified as
Jasvir, a resident of Ugana village, who was on his way towards Uksi village on a bike with his brother
Amandeep. While Amandeep, who was driving the bike, received a phone call and got off the bike, his brother kept sitting when a speeding truck hit the vehicle and crushed
Jasvir. A complaint in this regard was lodged by Amandeep and the truck driver was booked for rash driving. The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy.
