School principals get tips on behavioural skills
Ferozepur, June 19 The two-day camp, which concluded late last evening, witnessed the training being imparted to these principals, drawn from Faridkot district, in attitudinal behavioural skills, time management, stress management, team management and Right to Information (RTI) Act by the experts from different areas. Raminder Singh, Commissioner, Ferozepur division-cum-Executive Director, while addressing the participants, said that MGSIPAP had started holding such camps so that administrative and other skills of the school heads could be improved to enable them to produce better and good citizen for the nation. He said anyone, who wanted to learn anything, should not bring age factor into the same as age was no bar for learning. He added schools were like temples and their sanctity must be maintained as the same thing had been taking place in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Gyan Singh, regional project coordinator, said besides him, the other resource persons, who participated in the camp to educate the school heads, were Jaskartar Singh Dhillon, retired circle education official, Gagandeep Sharma, associate fellow, MGSIPAP, Manu Bala Sandhu and Bhagwant Singh, lecturer, DIET, Verka (Amritsar). He said in the first camp, 30 principals participated. Four more camps would be organised for the school principals belonging to Ferozepur, Moga and Faridkot districts. He claimed that participants demanded that the duration of the camp must be increased from two days to five. They demanded that must be given training in computers and handling of financial matters including maintaining of accounts. |

Bathinda, June 19 Baldev Singh Brar, president of the managing committee, Malwa Colleges said it was a rare initiative that a college of Punjabi University tied up with an overseas institution. Brar stated that the University Canada West having campuses in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia accepted and approved the syllabi of first year of the MBA programme being taught in the Malwa Colleges. He added that it would enable the students of the Malwa Colleges to apply for second year and final year of MBA programme of University Canada West. Students enrolling for the graduate as well as for the MBA programme at Malwa Colleges, Bhatinda will now get a chance to acquire a globally recognised degree from a leading Canadian University. “A delegate of University Canada West is likely to visit the campus of Malwa Colleges in August 2010 to apprise the students about the immense benefits which this tie up between UCAN and Malwa Colleges will offer,” said P Subramanian, principal Malwa Colleges. |

Man booked for killing mother
Bathinda, June 19 According to information available, Bhupinder Singh and his wife Kulwinder Kaur had a dispute with the former’s mother Harbans Kaur couple of years back. They had been quarrelling for claim on a small house, the sole property Harbans Kaur had at Partap Nagar. Irked over the regular incidents of dispute, Harbans Kaur had given them one-fourth chunk of the house and started living separately. But the accused couple started pressurising her to transfer the whole house in their name, which she was not agreeing to. Informing the matter to media, Sonia, daughter of Harbans Kaur, alleged, “My brother was under the influence of some intoxicant when he killed mother. She was standing at the entrance of the house on Friday night when irked over some issue, my sister-in-law thrashed her and she fell on ground. Acting upon the direction of his wife, my brother started jumping over her chest and hit her hand, which made her unconscious.” Sonia claimed, “Finding her palpitating, I along with some relatives rushed her to a hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. We brought the body back home and found Bhupinder Singh and his wife Kulwinder Kaur absent. We informed the police after all relatives assembled this morning.” The police took the body to the Civil Hospital, Bathinda, for post-mortem examination. The body was handed over to the family later. Meanwhile, acting upon the statement of Sonia, the Canal Colony police registered a case under sections 304 and 34 of the IPC against Bhupinder and his wife Kulwinder Kaur. Till the filing of news, the accused were at large. |

Awareness camp on prevention of malaria
Bathinda, June 19 Dr Sandeep Singh apprised the gathering about the prevention of malaria and vector-borne diseases. He also told them about the treatment of the diseases. The participants were exhorted to keep their surroundings clean so as to prevent the occurence and spread of malaria, dengue and other diseases. Among those present at the camp were pharmacist Manjit Singh and multi-purpose health workers Veerpal Kaur, Ravinder Kaur and Manjit Kaur. Sarpanch Nachhattar Singh proposed the vote of thanks. |
Undertrial dies during treatment
Ferozpur, June 19 As per the information, the undertrial, Harnek Singh (65) was a resident of village Mari Mustaka, Bagha Purana, district Moga. Harnek was a former sarpanch of the village. He was arrested by the police on February 27 this year during the Dera Sacha Sauda protest in Bagha Purana, Moga, and a case under the Arms Act was registered against him along with others at police station, Bagha Purana, Moga. Talking to The Tribune, L S Jakhar, Superintendent of the Central Jail, disclosed that Harnek was imprisoned on June 14 and was lodged along with the co-accused in the case. He was to appear before the court on June 28 in connection with the case. Jakhar said Harnek was not reported to be sick earlier. However, he suddenly developed some medical problem today, following which, he was sent to the Civil Hospital where he died. The exact reason of his death would be ascertained only after post-mortem examination, which would be conducted tomorrow. |
Hoteliers told to strengthen security system
Ferozepur, June 19 Surjeet Singh, SP (Headquarter), who presided over the meeting of owners and managers of hotels here, said motto of issuance of instructions was to apprise them of the latest development in the world of crime. He said hoteliers had been directed not to allow anyone to check in the room without taking identity proof of the same. They had been asked to make arrangements for scanning their luggage and vehicles. |
