Gruesome hacking, clash on bloody Friday
3 tavern workers blinded in attack by colleague
Chandigarh, May 21
Three employees of a tavern adjoining a liquor vend in Sector 52 were brutally hacked with a butcher’s knife by a colleague in the wee hours of the morning today. According to the police, following a violent dispute Karan, a Burail resident, attacked the three men in their faces, rendering them blind. They were admitted to PGI where their condition is stated to be critical.

2 hurt in brawl at DPI office

Chandigarh, May 21
A district-level general secretary of the Congress, accompanied by his brother, exchanged blows and hit bottles in a free-for-all wrestling bout with staff of the DPI (Punjab) on the stairs of the office in Sector 17 here today.

Garbage plant raises stink in MC House
Chandigarh, May 21
The garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra here, managed by Jai Parkash Associates, attracted the ire of muncipal councillors today. After a debate for more than one hour at the House meeting on the stink emanating from the plant and the garbage dumping ground, the House directed Municipal Commissioner Roshan Sunkaria to talk to the company to take remedial measures and submit a report within two months.

Truck driver killed in mishap
Zirakpur, May 21
A 25-year-old truck driver died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near the sales tax barrier on the Zirakpur-Ambala highway here this evening. The deceased was identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Bihar. The incident took place at around 9.30 pm when Rajesh was crossing the road. A speeding vehicle coming from the Chandigarh side hit him. He fell down on the road and died on the spot.
