Shiksha Rattan award
: Dr Ghanshyam Singh, Principal of the Adarsh College for Women and Director Adarsh Computers, Punjab Technical University Learning Centre, Fatehgarh Churian in Gurdaspur district, said he had been honoured with the Shiksha Rattan award and the Pride of India award in Bangaluru.

Army school:
Lieut-Gen Ramesh Halgali, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, inaugurated Army Public School (APS) at Tibri cantonment, 8 km from here, yesterday. Prominent among those present were APS patron Major-Gen Virendra Kumar, General Officer Commanding, 15 Infantry, and APS chairman Brig A.K. Gupta.

10-day NSS camp begins:
NSS camp was held at GHG Harparkash College of Education, Sidhwan Khurd. The theme was “promotion of environment” and was inaugurated by Dr Paramjit Kaur of Khalsa College for Women here. She asked students to work for national and social services to realise the real essence behind the NSS.
Dr Balkjit Kaur, college principal, along with the staff and NSS volunteers, planted saplings on the college campus to mark the inauguration of the 10-day camp.

Tobacco Act violations: Seven persons were challaned for violating the Tobacco Control Act-2003 by a team of the health department here today. Sources said that a team headed by Amandeep Verma, District Drug Inspector, had found that some persons were smoking at a public place. Dr Kamaljit Kaur, Civil Surgeon, has appealed to people to abide by the instructions.

Eligibility for M.Tech: According to a notice Issued by Panjab University, the students having passed M.Sc. electronics, botechnology or nano-science with atleast 50 per cent marks are eligible to apply for M.Tech ( nano-science and nano-technology) course through O-CET-2010. These students should send their OMR application form till May 17,2010 by 4 pm without any late fee.

Holiday: Panjab University has declared May 14 a holiday for all teaching,non-teaching departments of the university and its offices,institutions, regional centers, affiliated colleges on account of the Fateh Divas.

Entrance test:Panjab University will hold an entrance test on July 4, 2010 (Sunday) for the admission to the MBA course (off campus) at the University School of Open Learning. Application form along with other details is available on payment of Rs1, 200 at the campus post office and can also be downloaded from www.puchd.ac.in <http://www.puchd.ac.in/>. The duly filled forms should be submitted latest by June 25, 2010 up to 4pm at the C.E.T. Cell, Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Interactive session: Accompanied by former MS India Gul Panag, the secretary, education, conducted his regular “Gup shup” session at Government Model Senior Secondary, Sector 23 Chandigarh. The session was attended by around 1000 students, teachers and members of the Parent Teacher Association, who were apprised on various civic and social issues.

Fruit contest: AKSIPS -41-B organised a fruity competition for its pre-primary wing on Thursday . The children came dressed in colourful attires, They sang rhymes, which was followed by a stage performance where teachers enacted the role and value of the different variety of fruits.

Bar association
: Mohali District Bar Association president Parminder Singh Toor on Thursday stated that the bar association of Kharar-based lawyers had merged with the District Bar Association. In the election of the District Bar Association held on January 15, the Kharar-based lawyers had not participated. Under the mutual agreement reached between the two bars, five members of the Kharar-based lawyers have been inducted in to the executive committee of the District Bar Association. 

Zirakpur
Banks inspected
: To check security arrangements at the banks in the city, SHO Yogi Raj on Tuesday visited various banks and inspected the functioning of CCTV cameras. He also gave instructions to security guards. Giving the information, the SHO stated that with the increase in number of banks in the Zirakpur area, the security was necessary.Therefore, “We have conducted survey in banks located on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway and the Zirakpur-Kalka highway and checked the security arrangements”, he added. He added that in future they would also organise surprise checks at the banks on regular intervals.
