If marksheet means clearing dues, students don’t want it

The Panjab University’s examination branch is caught in a peculiar situation. Around 89 per cent of the first semester students of the five-year integrated law course have failed to turn up to collect their marksheets that have been withheld owing to the non-payment of dues.

Increase in NCC cadets joining armed forces

Stating that the number of NCC cadets getting a commission in the armed forces is showing an upward trend, Additional Director General, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate, Maj Gen MS Virk has said 90 cadets from the region have joined the services, which is the highest number for any directorate in the state.
Punjabi gets first language status in UT
Signboards, nameplates of govt offices and officials will now be in Punjabi

The Punjabi language is on its way of getting its rightful place in Punjab’s capital Chandigarh. In a development that would go a long way in promoting Punjabi in the city, the Chandigarh administration today decided that all the signboards and nameplates would be in Punjabi.

Demolition drive takes political colour

Anti-encroachment drive by the enforcement wing of Zirakpur Municipal Council at the old Kalka road took a political
colour, when at least three politicians extended their support to the protest held by shopkeepers against the action of MC. As a result, the demolition drive came to standstill.

Violators to be jailed, fined

The Chandigarh administration has directed the general public that as per provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, no person/shopkeeper shall sell/purchase, receive, acquire or keep in his possession, custody or control the wildlife articles without prior permission (in writing) of the Chief Wildlife Warden, UT,
Chandigarh, or the authorised official.
Student goes missing
Chandigarh, May 10
Jai Singh, a resident of Sector 47, reported to the police that his son Inderjit Singh, a student of Class VI of KV, Sector 47, had gone missing on May 7. He had gone to the school and did not return. The police said they had received the application and started investigating the matter.

Govt colleges told to re-work plans
Presentations lack clarity

The development plans and individual budgets presented by the city government colleges have failed to impress the UT higher education department which has asked them to re-work their “ambitious list of tall promises”.
The colleges have reportedly invited the ire of the department for their vague
and unplanned, though ambitious list of promises.
UIET students submit memo to PU authorities

Students of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) and Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO) today submitted a memorandum to PU authorities.
