Cops follow up new lead in double murder, seek motive
Chandigarh, May 2
The police has ruled out revenge as the motive behind the sensational murder of two private security guards whose bodies were found dumped under a bridge in Daria village yesterday. With the mystery over the cause of the murder deepening the police is now pursuing a fresh lead to find out where the stolen water pipes, said to be a possible reason for the killing, had gone.

Chargesheet filed against gangrape suspects
Panchkula, May 2
Four months after an 18-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped in a car in Kalka, the local police has submitted a charge sheet against the suspects to additional chief judicial magistrate Raj Gupta.

Miscreants smashed the windowpane of a car parked at a house in Sector 21 here on Friday night. Prof Nirmal Parkash, who lodged a complaint yesterday, said it was the fourth such incident.

“Wash your hands” seems to be the latest “reform” that the CBSE seeks to bring about in its affiliated schools. Having launched the national school sanitation initiative a couple of days ago, the board has asked all its affiliated schools to set up health and wellness clubs which would not only sensitise school students, but also the community towards the importance of washing hands.

Harcharan Singh, a senior citizen living in Sector 41, called the emergency number of the Chandigarh Police, recently, saying a group of three men was frequenting his locality from the past three days. Four youths from Chotla Kalan were booked today for repeatedly raping a minor. Manjit Singh, an accused, ran a grocery shop in the 17-year-old victim’s neighbourhood. Last year, when the accused used to go to the shop to buy something, Manjit would misbehave with her.

The police has arrested Devinder Kumar, a resident of Chuni Kalan village, for allegedly raping the wife of Paramjit Singh, a resident of Chunni Khurd village. Paramjit stated in his complaint that the accused committed the crime when his wife was alone in the house.

A woman got killed in an altercation with her daughter’s in-laws in the Allahpur area of Kurali today. As per the police, the woman, Gurmeet Kaur, and her husband Bhag Singh from Cholta Khurd village, had gone to meet their daughter Paramjeet Kaur, married to Baldev Singh, in Allahpur.

Inebriated cop creates ruckus, suspended

The Mohali police suspended SI Ramji Dass for creating a scene in an inebriated state last night. Posted at the Kharar police station, Ramji Dass stays as a tenant in Dashmesh Nagar on the first floor of the house of Ghasita Singh. Yesterday when he reached his home around 11 pm in an inebriated state, he beat up his wife and started abusing the landlord’s wife.

On a complaint of a customer, a team of the health department and the local administration in a joint operation conducted a raid on a showroom of Amartex at Pinjore on Friday night. Official sources said during the raid, samples of eatables beyond expiry date were seized and the raid continued till late into the night.

Woman sets herself, child afire; both dead
Ambala, May 2
Kamlesh (23) set herself and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Nandini on fire after pouring kerosene. A resident of Dalipgarh village, Kamlesh was married to Amit, a driver. According to her husband, they had a minor tiff in the morning, after which he left for work.

Sangeeta Shree developers to refund Rs 8.8 lakh
Chandigarh, May 2
The Mohali District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has found Ambala-based Sangeeta Shree Developers International Private Limited and its director Gautam Sharma guilty of deficiency in service. They have been asked to refund the sale price of a plot to the tune of Rs 8,80,000, along with interest on the sale price.

Mediation system best, says CJ

The Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Mukul Mudgal says the mediation system is best for both parties involved in litigation. He expressed his views during the concluding session of the second phase of mediation training programme being conducted at the Judicial Academy in Sector 43 here.

Two arrested on robbery charge
Chandigarh, May 2
The police arrested two residents of Mauli Jagran yesterday on the charges of robbing a man of his mobile phone and cash on Friday night. Ranvijay Singh of Mauli Jagran reported to the police that Ravinder, alias Monty, and Lucky, residents of Mauli Jagran, robbed him of his mobile phone and Rs 30,000 from near the level crossing at Mauli Jagran.

Two unidentified youths decamped with Rs 15,000 belonging to a resident of Ram Darbar here yesterday afternoon. The victim, Laxmi Prasad, told the police that he had withdrawn the amount from his account with the State Bank of India to send it to his relative in Bihar.
