Ludhiana, April 26
A team of the fisheries department, Ludhiana, seized banned Thai Mangoor fish worth Rs 1 lakh from a fish farm near Samrala on Friday.
A team comprising Vidya Sagar, assistant director, fisheries department,
Ludhiana, and Sunil Kumar Gupta, chief executive officer, raided the premises of the fish farm and recovered the cache of 18,000 Mangoor fish seeds.

‘Teachers overburdened’
Teacher assigned double census duties

In yet another typical goof-up by the district administration in deputing government employees for census work, a government schoolteacher in Lohara village has been assigned double duties. When contacted, the tehsildar concerned refused her request to look into the matter saying she had to perform the duties as per the orders.

Govt urged to punish misuse of national emblem

Youth Cong protests against ‘corrupt’ MC officials

The local unit of the District Youth Congress (Urban) held a demonstration against the “corrupt practices” prevalent in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. The protest was organised at the main Municipal Corporation’s office at the Mata Rani Chowk here today. At least 200 protesters alleged that the civic authorities were doing nothing for the development of city; rather all grants/money was being “misused” by government.

Fire breaks out at steel unit

A fire broke out at Mahaveer Steel India, Jalandhar bypass, this afternoon. One fire tender was sent to the spot to douse the fire.
Samir, owner of the factory, said the fire incident occurred due to short-circuit. “We have still not estimated the losses. It was horrifying, but fortunately lives were saved,” he said. The fire broke out at 2 pm and it took about an hour to control the situation.
