Income Tax officials today swooped down on the offices of IPL franchisees Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab and also on companies handling the broadcast rights of the cash-rich cricket league.

Beleaguered IPL commissioner Lalit Modi appears set for a full-scale confrontation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India as he has questioned the legality of the Governing Council meeting on Monday and threatened to disclose the stake-holding pattern of the teams in the league.

Some senior Congress leaders are floating a rather interesting plan to cut party’s ally NCP, its boss Sharad Pawar and protégée Lalit Modi to size. Officially, the grand old party may go blue in face denying it, the fact, however, is that there are serious difference of opinion, primarily based on conflict of interests, between the two allies on not just the IPL but other issues as well.

Dalits’ houses set ablaze  in Haryana

A man and his disabled daughter were killed when a group of villagers torched over a dozen houses belonging to the Dalits at Mirchpur village near here today. Several others were injured in the attack.

A milk powder scam of nearly Rs 10 crore in Army’s Northern Command has put two senior officers in the dock. A Colonel earlier posted as the Director Military Farms, Headquarters, Northern Command, and a Lieutenant Colonel, who was the Officer Commanding, Military Farm, Jammu, are facing trial by General Court Martial (GCM) for their alleged acts of omission  and commission.
