Compensation: Landowners return disappointed
Mohali, April 19
Scores of landowners of Matran, Manauli and Chachu Majra villages, whose land is being acquired for the Airport City, today returned disappointed when officials of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) were unable to handover the cheques of the land compensation amount. Only 13 of the landowners could be given a compensation of Rs 45 crore.

Duststorm, rain in city
Residents of Chandigarh had some respite from the scorching heat after a brief shower on Monday morning.Chandigarh, April 19
After a hot and humid afternoon when the mercury lowered to 39 degrees Celsius from yesterday’s 42.7, city residents were in for some relief as the evening hours saw a duststorm followed by rain in several parts of the city today.

36 grievances taken up at public hearing session

Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator Shivraj Patil gave a sympathetic hearing to all 36 grievances during a public hearing session today. Responding to Tilak Raj’s request for financial assistance for his wife’s treatment at the PGI, Patil asked the Finance Secretary to help him.

Man stabbed
Chandigarh, April 19
Three youths stabbed a Mauli Jagran resident a couple of day ago. Natish Kumar of Mauli Complex reported to the police that Monty, Ashok and his brother stabbed him after an altercation near his residence on April 17. He was admitted to the Sector 16 Government Multi-Specialty Hospital. A case was registered.
