We already have hired foreign consultants for the purpose. We have a five-year roll-on plan to follow. We are also in talks with the present Governor about the lease of the club. Hopefully, that will be done soon.” Jaspal Singh Sidhu, member of the club for the past 15 years, said: “The club lease should be in order. The most pertinent issue is the maintenance of the course. The course is one of the busiest and the focus should be on promoting golf tourism, especially in the light of upgrade of the airport.” Gurjit Singh Lehal, a first-time contender for the post, says: “I was persuaded by some member friends who were not too happy with the present council.” Lehal, who has been three-time honorary secretary and captain, wants to utilise his experience. Talking about his agenda, he says: “This course is a priority as this is the lifeline. I want the course to be in its best shape the year round, not just from March to May when it is naturally green. Also, quality of catering and provision of good food is on the agenda. I also want to bring in more discipline to the club.” The club was recently in the news when the issue regarding its non-renewal of lease after 2007 hit the headlines. The club had been functioning without its land lease renewed by the UT administration. Also, the lease was on old rates, which were very nominal than the prevailing rates. |
