Protest Against ‘Flawed’ Seniority List
Jalandhar, April 2 President of the union Malagar Singh condemned the inefficiency of the state machinery. Taking to The Tribune, he said Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Buta Singh had asked the Education Department and the Department Promotion Committee (DPC) to clarify the reason behind promoting juniors while neglecting those already officiating as principals in their absence. “They were given a month’s time to clarify their positions. The meeting was held on February 25, 2010. Even about 10 days after the completion of stipulated time, there is no hope of any clarification report from the DPC,” said Malagar Singh. The union alleged that proper seniority list of December 4, 2008, was changed to a flawed one. “No transparent method was adopted in promoting teachers to principals of senior secondary schools in Punjab. The DPC issued a inconsistent list on February 12, 2009, in which junior lecturers with an experience of eight to 10 years were considered and promoted as principals, while those with 20 plus years of experience were left behind,” he added. The union, which has decided to adopt a do or die approach to the issue, demands Education Department’s clarification report, removing the principals promoted through the flawed list and appointment of the actually deserving ones. As many as 1,175 senior secondary schools in the state had been functioning without principals for nearly a decade as the DPC which approves lecturers, headmasters and vocational masters for promotions to the post of principal, had cancelled its meeting for 17 times. Meanwhile, the Chamar Mahan Sabha has supported the cause of the SC/BC Teachers’ Union. |

HSBC Bank told to refund Rs 4,49,440
Hoshiarpur, April 2 The owners of MAPL had filed a complaint against the bank branch alleging that the bank offered to advance Rs 4 crore to the former vide letter of June 19, 2008, at an interest rate of 9.5 per cent per annum against a processing fee of Rs 4,49,440. The owners of MAPL deposited the processing fee, but instead of releasing the loan amount, the bank illegally started claiming the enhanced rate of interest. The bank authorities pleaded that the MAPL brought the notice of assignment from his debtor, Bajaj Auto, after more than three months and by that time the interest rate had gone up substantially. But the owner of the MAPL did not agree to pay the enhanced rate of interest. The consumer forum held that as the bank had not disbursed the loan to the MAPL, therefore, the bank had no legal right to claim the processing charges. |
