New traffic rule: Challan DC’s driver, get shifted
Jalandhar, March 24 In less than 48 hours after he challaned the driver for violating traffic guidelines, Sudesh Agnihotri, ADCP, instead of getting a pat on his back, was shifted to the PAP. The officer was at a naka put up opposite Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall while he “dared” to stop the escort vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Sunday evening. The ADCP was on duty under a special drive launched by the city police to curb traffic violations in the city. Honking the siren, sources in the police said, the driver was driving the vehicle with the red beacon on. The escort driver allegedly misbehaved with Agnihotri when he stopped him and asked his subordinate to challan the vehicle for violating traffic guidelines. The driver was alone in the vehicle and was not escorting the DC. The police official was shocked when he received transfer orders from the DGP on Tuesday. Sources revealed that the senior officer took up the issue with the police top brass at Chandigarh, following which the ADCP was shifted to PAP. Deputy Commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu, when contacted on the issue, said, “You please leave this topic”. City Police Commissioner Gaurav Yadav was not available for comments. |

Sukhbir demands Rs 500 bonus on wheat
Jalandhar, March 24 He requested Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to immediately sanction the bonus to partially compensate the grieving farmers. The state expects 20 per cent shortfall in wheat due to the unusual rise in the mercury in March. Talking to mediapersons, Badal said the Punjab government was quite concerned over the early maturity of the crop and loss of expected weight and size of the grains due to “once in a century” heat wave in March. He said when the farmers were hoping for a bumper crop, the unexpected twist in climate had put the farming community in a quandary. He noticed that the increased rates of diesel and fertilisers were also taking a heavy toll on the small farmers of the state. Expressing concern over the sudden increase in demand for power due to rising mercury, Badal asked Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to allocate a special quota of power for the agricultural sector of Punjab to enable it to meet its commitment of the national pool. |
