Rahul Gandhi’s popularity media creation: BJP
Nainital, March 28 “He is just a creation of mediapersons who are obsessed with the western culture. The Congress party has been spending large amounts of money for his publicity,” said Tripathi in an exclusive talk with The Tribune. He was in Nainital on a personal visit. Replying to a query on the recent electoral gains made by the Congress in UP, Tripathi said, “This is just a temporary phase. After seing the misrule of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), people are once again looking
at the BJP to provide an alternative”. Claiming that the BJP is already engrossed in the ground work for the next assembly polls in UP, he said the party had already set up booth committees in more than 60 per cent of the assembly segments. He further disclosed that the BJP would be making corruption in UP and inflation as its main poll planks. “People of the state are terrified and fed up of the dictatorial policies of Mayawati,” said Tripathi. Referring to the recent controversy of the currency garland involving Mayawati, he said, “She is trying to provide a legal cover to everything”. He also hit out at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre for failing to take any action against Mayawati. “The Congress is scared to act against her as it fears losing Dalit votes,”
Tripathi asserted. On the issue of the conduct of politicians in Parliament and state assemblies, he said there was already a code of of conduct for them which needed to be implemented strictly. “Some unpleasant decisions need to be taken if democracy is to survive in the country,” he pointed out. |

Residents of 72 villages to be
rehabilitated?
Pitthoragarh, March 28 “For this our task with the Forest Department has almost reached the final stage. After getting land in Terai, these villagers will be shifted there permanently,” said Heera Singh Dhapola, vice-chairman of the Disaster Management Advisory Committee of the state. “In Uttarakhand, more than 35 lakh population is living in zone 5 that is most earthquake prone,” claimed Dhapola. He informed that his department had sanctioned a sum of Rs 34.62 crore for public properties which got damaged by natural disaster last year. Out of this amount, the maximum had been given to Pitthoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Almora districts where maximum incidents of landslide had occurred last year. “Out of this money, the damaged public properties will be constructed and the villages where personal properties were damaged would be compensated by the Soil Conversation Department of the Uttarakhand government and NABARD, which has separate plans for these victims of natural disaster,” said Dhapola. The vice-chairmen of the committee said other than the natural ones, man-made disaster tragedies had occurred more in Uttarakhand. These tragedies were the results of scientific mining and deforestation in the state. “The present government is of the view that until the mass awareness campaign against deforestation and mining is launched, the state can not be freed from future natural disaster,” said Dhapola. |

Head of missing 4-year-old girl found
Nainital, March 28 According to information, Deepmala had been missing since March 17. She had returned to her house, along with her family members, in Jawahar Nagar after attending a jagran, but had vanished from the house in the middle of the night. Deepmala and her brother had been found abandoned by one Sunil at Lal Kuan Railway Station a few years ago. At that time she was just a few months old. Sunil earns his living by polishing shoes. He had brought the children home. He had handed over the boy to a relative to be brought up, while had taken care of Deepmala. His wife Gyanmati had given birth to a son days before he had come across Deepmala and her brother at Lal Kuan, but his real son had not survived. Since then Deepmala had been their only child. The police is investigating the matter and has started questioning people on whom Sunil has pointed a finger of suspicion. It is being ascertained whether the child was murdered on account of personal enmity or it was a case of human sacrifice. Senior Superintendent of Police, Nainital, MS Bungyal told The Tribune that the body of the child had also been found along with her clothes. He said the body had also been eaten up by animals. Anju Gupta’s testimony biased, says BJP vice-president
Nainital, March 28 Mishra said here yesterday, “I was in constant touch with her on that day and I never expected that she would say this. There had been several appeals from the Manch to the Kar Sewaks to stop what they were doing and return. “A senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader who knew several languages had been appealing to the Kar Sewaks in Telugu, Tamil and other languages to stop. Advani did not say what has been conveyed to the court. Even Murli Manohar Joshi did not say anything of this sort. Some people must have said certain things when the structure was brought down, but I did not expect her (Anju Gupta) to say this in the court”. He further stated, “At times the mob became uncontrollable, but it is wrong to say such a thing about the leadership”. Replying to a query related to the poor performance of the BJP in the last Assembly and Parliamentary elections in Uttar Pradesh, while the Congress managed a good show, he said, “People had got wrong messages about the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the BJP coming close. There were events that were interpreted in a wrong way. Episodes related to former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh and SP leader Azam Khan led to a shift of Muslim votes in the favour of the Congress”. He qualified this by saying that the BJP would have to be very cautious in striking alliances for the forthcoming polls. “People still have faith in the BJP and now it is for the party to channelise that faith,” he said. When asked about the recent controversy over the Congress leadership attacking Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan for coming close to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and becoming a brand ambassador of Gujarat, Mishra said, “This simply shows the myopic vision of the Congress. By becoming a brand ambassador, a person does not necessarily subscribe to the political ideology of the ruling party, but he becomes a partner in the development of that state. “It was the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and former President APJ Abdul Kalam who have also praised the Gujarat government for its developmental activities.” |
