Augmentation of water supply
mooted
Ambala, March 13 Randeep Singh Surjewala, Public Health Minister, Haryana, has assured local legislator Anil Vij that the project of supplying canal water after its purification would be taken up shortly. The work on augmentation of drinking water supply to Ambala is likely to be taken up soon. Ambala has been facing an acute problem of low water pressure. Explaining the reason behind the fall in the pressure of water in main lines, sources in the administration said the groundwater level had plummeted considerably and motors which had been supplying water earlier failed to meet the rising demand of water. Surjewala has assured Anil Vij that the work of supplying canal water to Ambala Cantt will be completed by June 30. He said Rs 30.82 crore had been allocated for the project. As of now, the town gets water supply from tubewells which is too meagre to meet the increasing demand. Anil Vij had taken up the project about seven years ago during the Chautala regime. However, the project failed to take off at that time. He has now taken up the matter with the Haryana government and received a favourable response from the Public Health Minister. After completion, the project will also supply water to a number of villages, including Kardhan, Khozkipur, Sunder Nagar, Chanderpuri, Barnala, Tundla, Panjokhra, Machhonda, Vidya Nagar and Nanhera. |
