Abohar
Over 30 students get placement:
The Mohali-based HCL Info system has selected 33 students of the Abohar Polytechnic College for training and placement today, informed Sanjeev Midha, chairman of the institute. As many as 220 students of fourth semester and 155 of the sixth semester had appeared in the written test that was conducted by the company here.

Health camp held
: Diviya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan organised a health camp at Sri Kanhaya Krishana Public School at Amarpura basti here on Tuesday. Sadhvi Bharti Ji told the gathering about the symptoms of various diseases and measures to save themselves from diseases like dengue, swine flu, cholera, etc. 

Office-bearers appointed: Deepak Singla has been appointed president, Navdeep Makkar as vice president and Sharanjit Singh Aman as general secretary of Bathinda zone of Anti-Corruption Crime Prevention and Community Oriented Policing Society at a meeting held under the presidentship of society's national president Varinder Singh Sant. 

Nanded train to hit tracks: The much-awaited Sriganganag-Nanded weekly superfast train will reportedly hit the tracks soon. Sources said the train is likely to start its first journey from Nanded on March 14.

7-month-old foetus found:
A foetus was found near here yesterday.
According to the police, an unidentified woman was trying to hide something under the ground near Azad Nagar, but fled after some persons approached her. The area residents found that she was trying to hide a seven-month-old foetus. They said stray dogs were seen eating the foetus and the police was informed about the incident. The police officials said the foetus had been sent for lab testing in Patiala and a case in this regard had been registered and investigations were on.

65 operated upon for cataract
:More than 400 patients were examined and 65 cataract surgeries were performed at a free eye operation camp organised by Lions Club, Ludhiana.
The camp went on for four days wherein Dr Rajinder Singh attended to the patients at Sarabjit Memorial Healthcare Center, Sehat Ghar, Sarinh village. According to club president, BS Jhandu, and project chairman Lion Kuldip Singh, the club paid around Rs 1,70,000 for lenses, medicines and operations.

Naik students’ union president
: The National Conference Student Union (NCSU) on Wednesday appointed Musharraf Naik, a final year student of Government Degree College, as district president of the union, Ramban. According to a statement issued here, the appointment was made by Rahul Sharma, president of the NCSU, Jammu province, on the recommendation of the district body of the student wing. Congratulating Naik, Sharma directed him to constitute the unit of student’s wing in the entire district. 

Man held with intoxicants: The police arrested a man and seized some intoxicants in the Janipur area here on Wednesday. It said acting on a tip-off, Hazrat Ali, a resident of the same locality, was arrested with 320 intoxicant capsules. A case under various sections of the NDPS Act has been registered. Hazrat is being interrogated.

Man killed in accident
: One person was killed and four others were injured in road accidents in the Kashmir valley on Tuesday. An unidentified pedestrian was injured when he was hit by a Tata Sumo in Shopian. He was rushed to the local hospital, where he died. Three persons were injured in an accident when a truck hit a Maruti car in the Beijbehara area of Anantnag district. 

2 houses, shops gutted: Two houses and two shops were damaged in fire incidents in the Kashmir valley. A house was gutted in the Kralpora area of Srinagar district, while another house got damaged at Poshpora village of the Trehgam area in Kupwara district. Two shops were gutted in a fire incident at Delina market of Baramulla district, the police said.

RET teachers: Baldev Raj Sharma, MLA, Reasi, handed the engagement orders of Rehber-e-Taleem (RET) teachers to 14 candidates under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan belonging to the Panchari zone falling in the Reasi constituency at a function here on Tuesday.
