Protest rally held: On a call given by the central trade unions, hundreds of activists of different unions staged protest rally at Shaheed Udham Singh
Chowk, blocked traffic at Malout crossing and took out a protest procession in Fazilka town bazaars here today to support their demands.
While addressing the gathering, leaders of different unions have criticised the government for its
anti-labour policies. They demanded that the government should introduce social security funds for farm
labourers.

Cancer awareness camp: Roko Cancer, an NGO, is organising a cancer awareness camp at Subhana village in the district on Saturday. In a press note,
K.S. Bains, president of the NGO, said owing to alarming rise in the number of cancer patients, especially breast cancer, the organisation was arranging such camps in different parts of the state. Deputy Commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu and Civil Surgeon S.S. Walia would attend the camp.
PTC Punjabi music awards: A function to give PTC Punjabi music awards for 2009 would be held at PAP Grounds here tomorrow. While Bollywood actors Gulshan Grover and Mona Singh would anchor the show, Udita Goswami will also perform during the function. Rajee M.
Shinde, COO of PTC Punjabi, PTC News and PTC Chak De, said the awards would be given in 27 different categories, including best music
salbum, best religious album and best debut female and male.

Power Shutdown:Power supply to Gobindpura, Nanakpuri, Lachhman Nagar, Muradpura, Moongphali Mandi, Nirang Kari Kucha, Machhi Market, Kabir Basti, Vishaw Karma Chowk and Manju Cinema will remain suspended on March 7 from 8 am to 4 pm. Power supply to Civil Lines, Jail road, Vaitganj, Chhaura Bazaar and Kotwali will also remain suspended on March 7 from 9 am to 3 pm.

Exam postponed: Due to some administrative reasons, Punjabi University has postponed the practical examinations scheduled to be held from March 6 to 10. As per information given by the university authorities, the remaining practical exams from will be held March 11 as per the earlier schedule.
