DAV College prof retires:
The local DAV College organised a grand function here to bid farewell to Prof NK Gosain, vice-principal, head of the English department and major in NCC who retired after putting in 38 years of distinguished services. Principal Dr JS Anand lauded the services of Prof Gosain who also served as assistant coordinator of IGNDU, New Delhi. He is associated with different NGOs in the city. Prof Gosain thanked the faculty for honouring him.

The elections of the Punjab Civil Secretariat Staff Association were concluded here today when the Returning Officer, Jagdish Mittar, declared following persons victorious unopposed: Tejvir Walia as President, Karnail Saini as Senior Vice-President, Dev Raj as Vice-President-I, Manjinder Kaur Kalaur as Vice-President-II, Darshan Singh Patli as General Secretary, Parmdeep Singh Bhabat as Press Secretary, Sukhchain Khaira as Joint General Secretary, Manjit Singh Randhawa as Finance Secretary, Gurbinder Singh Johl as Office Secretary and Narinder Pal Singh as Organisational Secretary.

Two minor children burnt alive in Hanumangarh:
Two minor children were burnt alive as a hut was reduced to ash in a fire that broke out in village Ramsisar of Hanumangarh last night, sources said. As per details, Krishan Kumar and his wife had gone to their relatives to celebrate Holi leaving behind daughter Imrati (7) and son Bal Ram (5) as they were asleep.

Encroachments removed:
An anti-encroachment drive was carried out by officials of the UT estate office at the Progressive Housing Society, Sector 50, here today.
About 22 hedges, which had been constructed in violation of rules, were removed from flats in the society, along with illegal sheds. The open areas in front of flats covered by keeping concrete and other building material on the ground floor were also cleared.

Pleasant weather cheers: Pleasant weather, cloudy sky and cool breeze - it was a perfect day for city residents, who enjoyed the welcome change after five ‘warm’ days. The temperature too, showed signs of improvement with the city recording a minimum temperature of 14°Celsius and a maximum of 28.5°Celsius. While the minimum temperature decreased by 1.3 °C, the maximum temperature also recorded marginally lower from 29 °C recorded yesterday to 28.5°C today. The fall in temperature was due to cloudy sky.

Pinjore Temple
: Bhima Devi Temple at Pinjore has been awarded the prestigious “Best Maintained Tourist-Friendly Monument” of the country by the Union Ministry of Tourism. The Vice-President presented the award to the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Haryana Tourism, Keshni Anand Arora on Tuesday.
