Bathinda
Plea to conserve water:
Speakers at a seminar organised in the Baba Farid College here on Monday stressed upon the need for judicious use of water. SS Kukal of the Department of Soil Conservation, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, asserted that it should be a social responsibility of every citizen to conserve natural resources, especially those living in Punjab for the state’s water table is going down rapidly. He discussed various techniques for preserving water.

Lok Adalat member bereaved: Arun Parkash Sharma (23), grandson of Jagdish Chander Sharma, member, Lok Adalat, Bathinda, died in the United States of America recently. He was the only son of Dr AP Sharma and the great grandson of Pandit Gheesa Ram Attri of Gidderbaha, now settled at Aggarwal colony, Bathinda.

Hoshiarpur
Woman held  with opium:
The police arrested Devo of Denowal village and seized 100 gram opium from her last evening. A case under sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered.

Mullanpur Dakha
NRI Service Society constituted:
“NRIs are an indispensable part of Punjab”, said Manpreet Singh Ayali, chairman Zila Parishad, Ludhiana, while announcing the constitution of NRI Service Society here. Gurvinder Singh Bhangu, an NRI, will be the coordinator and Ayali will be the patron.

Medical camp:
As many as 350 patients were examined in a free medical camp organised by the local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) at SD High Girls School. A team of specialists from Amritsar examined the patients.

Arrears:
The govt has decided to disburse 30 per cent arrears out of 60 per cent accruing to the eligible All-India Services officers on account of implementation of the pay revision in the state. A circular has been issued by the Finance Department. As per the circular, the second instalment of 30 per cent of arrears would be payable after one year of withdrawal of the first instalment of 40 per cent arrears.

Girl student dies in mishap:
A girl student died while taking bath in a gas geyser-fitted bathroom in Sector 19 HUDA here on Saturday. The girl, who fell unconscious, was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Kavita, BA (final-year) student of IG College. Sources said there was no ventilator in the bathroom The gas from the geyser accumulated in the bathroom due to which the girl died. In another incident, a youth died after coming in contact with the generator here yesterday. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Siwan Gate here, was employed with a private mobile company.

KURUKSHETRA
2 students injured:
Two students were injured when Harish of Assandh, Kuldeep Singh of Sangrur and Anit of Sonepat armed with weapons forcibly entered into a room of Devi Lal hostel on Kurukshetra University campus and attacked Abhimanyu Batra of Jind and his friend Vikram Singh here on Sunday. The accused also threatened to kill them and escaped. Old rivalry is said to be behind the incident and a case has been registered.

REWARI
Shops looted:
Some miscreants reportedly looted three shops in the Kosli market on the Nahar road on Sunday night. They reportedly stole Rs 6,500 from the safes of the three shopkeepers - Sita Ram Chhabra (grocer), Pesh Kumar Sharma and Satya Narain (both vegetable retailers). The broken safes of the two vegetable retailers were found lying abandoned in their shops.

SONEPAT
Jeweller shot at, looted:
Three motorcycle-borne armed miscreants allegedly shot at a jeweller and looted Rs 1.70 lakh and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh here on Monday. The jeweller identified as Sumit, who received bullet injuries in his leg, was admitted to the Civil Hospital here. The police has registered a case. The incident took place when the jeweller along with his brother Amit was opening his shop. The miscreants tried to snatch the bag the victim was carrying. When Sumit opposed their attempt, one of the armed miscreants opened fired on Sumit. They also reportedly fired two rounds in the air to scare Amit and others.
