Processed food plant: The Ludhiana Central Jail may soon have a production plant of processed food on its premises as well as an outlet of the same outside. The project is an offshoot of a training programme in food processing started by the Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology for jail inmates earlier this week. The aim of the programme is to enable the inmates to earn a livelihood after they complete their sentences. “We have more than 2,500 prisoners/undertrails in the jail whose consumption of food is quite big. If this training programme, initiated by the CIPHET, is successful, we may set up a plant for soyabean or groundnut milk production on the jail campus itself,” said jail superintendent Kuldeep Singh.
