MC dragging its feet in fake bill scam case
Ludhiana, December 17
After creating a flutter in the city, the fake bill scam involving municipal corporation officials, in which Rs 75 lakh was fraudulently claimed by three contractors who had submitted forged bills, has been quietly set aside by the civic body. That officials are not in a hurry to recover the lost public funds is apparent from the fact that the civic body is now waiting for the vigilance cell to conduct yet another inquiry into the case.

The PSEB today imposed a two-hour power cut from 6.30 am without any prior information to residents. Later in the day, there was another cut for an hour in most parts of the city.

Lakkar overbridge may worsen traffic woes
The fact that the rail overbridge proposed to be set up on the site of the old Lakkar Bridge will not be connected to the elevated road defeats the entire purpose of the project despite a planned expenditure of Rs 60 crore. The overbridge’s present design is in the form of a Y shape with the tail starting from the Civil Lines. While the downward ramp will end at the Central Post Office at Mata Rani Chowk, the upward ramp will begin from the Reikhy Cinema chowk.

Mystery shrouds disappearance of labourer

Residents and members of the civic body of Nizampur village in Payal subdivision have demanded a probe into the sequence of events leading to the disappearance of a migrant labourer, Pappu, from the house of a dairy farm owner after the daughter-in-law of the family was beaten up mercilessly a week ago.
