No fresh probe into fake bill scam: MC
Ludhiana, December 14
At a meeting of the municipal corporation’s core committee convened today, mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura along with councillors of all political parties unanimously decided not to set up a new three-member committee to inquire into the fake bill scam, as the report that had indicted three road contractors and over a dozen MC officials had already been leaked in the media.

The MC multi-crore fake bill scam is getting murkier. Documents available with The Tribune not only expose the alleged political-contractor-official nexus, but also bring MC officials under scanner. A copy of the affidavit submitted by the grandson of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosain, Sunny, to the MC last year shows how politicians, contractors and officials are siphoning off public money.

Minister summons records

Indictment of Sunny, grandson of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Satpal Gosain, in the fake bill scam is finally being taken seriously by the Punjab government. Local bodies minister Manoranjan Kalia today held a meeting with Chief Vigilance Officer AK Prabhakar and Municipal Commissioner AK Sinha at Chandigarh in this regard.

Fire at hosiery unit

A fire broke out at Sudan Mohalla here early this morning, gutting a hosiery unit-cum-residence and reducing material worth lakhs to ashes. However, no loss of life has been reported.

Health dept in action after 3 H1N1 deaths

Health officials swung into action and local residents started taking precautions after three deaths due to H1N1 influenza were reported in the town in the past few days.
