PhD entrance test: Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and
Technology will conduct an entrance examination on December 21 for
admission to 107 seats for doctoral programmes (PhD) in 14 teaching
departments of the university.

Field officer held: A CBI team from Chandigarh arrested a field
officer of Oriental Bank of Commerce while accepting a bribe from a
farmer here on Tuesday. The team was led by SP Karnail Singh. Naresh, a
farmer of Shergarh, near here, applied for a bank limit of Rs 4 lakh and
he contacted field officer Badan Singh, who allegedly demanded Rs 12,000
for the work. However, he settled for Rs 5,000. The farmer complained to
the CBI office, following which he was arrested.Husband
gets life term: Additional District and Sessions Judge Naresh
Katyal here has sentenced a man to life term holding him guilty of
killing his wife. A fined of Rs 5,000 was also imposed on him. The
brother of deceased Paramjit Kaur had alleged that on June 20, 2008, his
brother-in-law Mili of Samplikheri village strangled his sister to
death. He also alleged that Mili was a drunkard and used to beat up his
sister under the influence of liquor. REWARI
Man held for theft: The police has arrested Krishan, a resident
of Dhokia village, near here, who reportedly looted a gold chain from
Laxmi Devi, a resident of Goriya village of Jhajjar district, when she
was travelling in a bus from Rewari to Kosli on Monday. The police also
recovered the stolen chain from him. He was on Wednesday produced in the
court of JMIC Saurabh Gosain, who remanded him to judicial custody.
Earlier on a complaint filed by the woman, the police registered a case
of assault and theft against the accused. Rohtak
3 MBBS students, 2 clerks suspended: The authorities of the
Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences here have placed two
employees and three MBBS students under suspension on charges of copying
and trying to leak the answersheet in the ongoing semester exam of the
first year of the course. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr SS
Sangwan, said strict action would be taken against anyone found
violating the norms in the university. The students allegedly found
indulging in cheating in the exams have been identified as Yogesh,
Jitender and Yogesh Kumar, all first-year students. Suspension orders
have been issued to Ajay and Vijay, clerks in the PGIMS.

Non-teaching staff to protest: The Jammu University Non-teaching
Employees Union and the Jammu University Non-gazetted Employees Union
will go on a symbolic protest from Thursday. The protest would be
observed from December 10 to 16. The protesting employees will sport
black badges as a symbol of protest against the pay anomalies without
affecting the normal functioning of the varsity. —
