City’s Saaniya shares lead with Sharmila
Chandigarh, December 9 The local lady professional, who underwent surgery last year and had to miss out in most of the tournaments, is all set to regain the form, she showed in the ninth leg of the tournament last year. And her brilliant rallies in the back nine in these two days is enough evidence of the power she packs in her golf kitty. Saaniya came very near to a hole-in-one on the 13th, when she executed a brilliant tee shot. She managed a birdie on that and sank another birdie three holes later. But this brilliant one under 35 back nine came after a miserable seven over 43 at the turn, in which she double-bogeyed on the third and fifth. Overnight leader Nalini Singh Siwach fought to maintain her lead right through to the 16th hole. But then she conceded a bogey and a double bogey in the last two holes to finish third at 160. With an overnight sky in the evening and the met department expecting a drizzle tomorrow, the final is expected to be a challenging day with the top three players within a margin of just one stroke. According to president of the Women's Golf Association of India Champika Syal, the WGAI and GRAVVA are sponsoring the six-leg tour, which carries a total prize money of Rs 10 lakh with a breakup of Rs 1.68 lakh for each leg. Chasing the target, DPS openers started on a decent note and both openers Amit chiller (36) and Nikunj (31) gave a desired start to team.
