Scam involving fake bills in MC unearthed

A major scam worth crores of rupees, involving fake bills, double payments and exposing contractor-politician-official nexus in road construction, has come to light in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation that has an annual income of more than Rs 300 crore.

Rail traffic disrupted as truck rams into overbridge railing

Rail traffic on Ludhiana-Delhi and Ludhiana-Jalandhar sections remained disrupted for more than three hours early in the morning with both up and down trains running late by one to four hours after a mini truck rammed into the railing on Ladhowal railway overbridge near here today.

Anti-encroachment drive turns ugly

The anti-encroachment drive launched in the town two days ago appeared to have gradually deteriorated into a ‘destruction drive’ in which the demolition squad removed the strengthened floors constructed by shopkeepers to prevent rainwater from entering their shops.

Greed to own 3 acres of agricultural land made a man kill his real brother in cold blood at Chak Bhaika village near here last night. The deceased identified as Sukhminder Singh (45) was killed by his younger brother Joginder Singh.
