Top cops summoned
: The 2004 sensational suicide committed by five members of a local business family has taken a new turn with the summoning of retired IPS officer and former Amritsar SSP Kultar Singh, and DSP Hardev Singh Boparai by the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Daljit Kaur.

: The president of the district unit of the PCMS Association, Dr Harish Bhardwaj, declared its executive at a meeting. Dr Vijay Joshi was appointed secretary, Dr Harjit Singh, Dr Vinod Bagga and Dr Raman Gupta were nominated senior vice-presidents. Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Sukhwinder Singh, Dr Arun Verma vice-presidents, Dr Gagan Deep organising secretary, Dr Jasbir Singh convener and Dr Davinder Virdi finance secretary.

500 to take part in roller skating:
About 500 skaters from various parts of the country will participate in the three-day eighth CBSE National Roller Skating Championship, which will commence tomorrow at KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector 7, here. Players from around 250 schools will participate in the rink and road races under the U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-19 categories.

Rail overbridge
: The railway overbridge on the Gurgaon-Daultabad road has been opened on trial basis for the general public. Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria inspected the overbridge before opening it on Thursday. He said the formal inauguration would be done later.

Panipat
Swine Flu alert
: The Health Department has geared up to combat the disease which has already claimed one life and infected five others persons so far. Civil surgeon Dr SS Punia said tablets and syrup of Tamiflu (antiviral medicine given to treat H1N1 virus) was available in the district.

Jammu
New Power Grid GM takes charge
: Subash Chandra Singh has taken over charge as General Manager (in-charge) of the Northern Region Transmission System-II (Operations) of Power Grid. Singh served with the NTPC, the Indian Oil Corporation, Coal India Ltd,the Maharashtra State Electricity Board and the Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. 

Painting contest: A painting-cum-poster making competition was organised by the Janata Diabetes Care Centre here on Thursday. A total of 16 schools participated. Preeti Salathia of Cooperative High School won the first prize in the junior category and Bhanu Priya of Luthra Public School won the first prize in the senior category.
