Mobile van for colony residents

The Punjab Governor and administrator, UT, General (retd) Dr SF Rodrigues has asked the Social Welfare department to launch a mobile service van, equipped with staff and necessary documents, to take various social schemes to colony residents at their doorstep.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today repatriated Superintending Engineer (B&R) Yogesh Gupta to his parent state, Punjab, with immediate effect. Gupta had joined the Chandigarh administration as an SDO, 18 years ago and during his stay here he had risen to the post of the superintending engineer.

Punjab Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla gives her blessings to children who have been operated upon for heart ailments, in Chandigarh Ten-year-old Simranjit insisted the glass shutters of the bus window be opened so that he could experience the wind on his face while touring the sights in the City Beautiful today. He had been shielded from the wind ever since his parents discovered he had a hole in his heart when he was only six months old. Three months after he has undergone an operation, Simran has a robust heart and is no longer afraid that a cold will lead to pneumonia.

Judicial remand for Janjua

Director-cum-secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua, department of industries and commerce, who was arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau officials on alleged charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, was remanded in judicial custody till November 26 by a court here today.
